I agree that the role of the PM is going to continue to increase. Project failures are so common and so expensive, something has to improve. About the PMP qualification, it is an excellent pursuit. I must disagree with Xen however, the "review of my business degree" is absolutely not true. The PMP is very specific knowledge. I have an MBA and I can promise you the stuff you learn for the PMP is more PM specific. 9 Knowledge Areas, 44 processes and over 540 tools and techniques. Plus you have to have significant verifiable experience to even qualify for the exam.
