The best thing is for you to go to this link: www.myonlinenursingdegree.com/lpn-rn-programs.html and click on college network on the bottom. Once you put in your information they will call you and let you know what's available in your area. They work with certain schools that offer LPN-RN online, accrediated programs. They also can help with regular programs for RN too, at least that is what the lady told me when she called. She asked me to pass on the information to any LPN's that were interested. |

angie in Phoenix, Arizona said: Could someone tell me what accredited schools offer online LPN to RN courses? I'm desperate. This question has been answered numerous times in this forum. I know I have mentioned it several times. Excelsior and Chamberlain are both acredited LPN to RN programs. I'm sure there are more as well, just google to find out the other accredited LPN to RN programs. Good Luck! |

Thank you for the answer, but I have already checked Chamberlain and Excelsior and Chamberlain has LPN to BSN in Arizona, not LPN to RN like I have asked for. Excelsior is not someplace I would go because of problem others have had with the school. I have googled many times and can't find a school. I need someone from Arizona to help me out with this. Please. |

They are a publishing company out to make money by charging people for materials. Just go to the school's actual websites for information. I know college network lists a lot of schools that have RN to BSN programs, but I'm not sure how many they have listed for just LPN to RN you will have to check that out. Chamberlain is an online school, and I thought they had a regular LPN to RN program, but I haven't really researched that so I guess you would have to call them for that info as well. |

Hi- I have been reading your comments and wow to an outsider everyone seems angry-I've decided to stop pursuing my MBA and go to nursing school-yeah! Here is my question-is becoming an LPN first easier then trying to obtain my RN? What I mean by "easier" is I noticed that waiting lists are years or schools ask you a tremendous amount of pre-requ. first-I want to work in the health field and get my foot in the door so to speak-any suggestions? Thanks |

Well from the research I've been doing I've seen that many colleges cannot handle the students and the waiting lists are a year (if not longer)-is there anyone here a nurse in Florida or a nursing student in Florida that can shed some light? |

La la in Bradenton, Florida said: Hi- Well, from what I heard it is best to go on and get your RN first. I have heard several people say that the LPN program is not easier than the RN program, and they wish they went straight into the RN program. Alot of people regret not going into the RN program first, because they never go back and do the RN program. They get caught up into working and other factors come in such as bills, having a family, etc.. and they just don't find the time to go back and complete the RN. I have even talked to nursing instructors that suggested that you go and do the RN first and skip the LPN program because it is a harder program and it is harder for people to go back to school later to get the RN. The LPN program at most schools is from 7a.m.-3 p.m., and RN programs are usually from 8a.m-12p.m. At least with an RN program you could work a part-time job on the side, but with the LPN you will be going to school for 8 hours which would leave you no time to do a a part time job on the side. During these economic times, most people find that they need to at least be working some. I don't know how your financial situation is though. You might can afford to go to school full-time to do an LPN program. Anyway, it is just your preference to which program you want to do first. Just don't be deceived into thinking that the LPN program will be easier, because it won't be. Also, if you decide to go the LPN route, I would encourage you to immediately enroll in an RN program afterwards. |

La la in Bradenton, Florida 32 months ago |
Thanks ofr your input-however, I didn't mean the LPN program was easier in the academic sense-I meant easier to be accepted ( a lot of schools that have RN programs seem to have a wait)-also, I am considering becoming a nurse after being the Finance industry-so I'm no spring chicken so to speak. |

Some schools have waiting lists for the LPN program. If you are going to be on a waiting list, it would make sense to be on one for the RN program. It would be better to just go on and get it out of the way and then you would come out of school with more options to where you would work and better pay. LPN's make on average starting out maybe 10-12/hr. So those are things you would have to consider as well. |

All your work accounts for nothing towards an RN degree. It is considered vocational school-not college. RNs attend school for 16 months-while an LPN spends 11-15 months in school that only has to be repeated for the RN classes. DO NOT ATTEND LPN CLASSES if you can get into an RN college. Yopu work harder in teh nursing homes then you do in the hospitals. |

Good for you!! Lpn's make a lot of money up to 32/hr. They have a lot of autonomy especially in Retirement and nursing homes. The money maker is wound care in the registry or helping in day surgery. Being an lpn first can help you become an good RN later. |

That's is probably with MANY years of experience. Starting out as an LPN does not make you any better of a nurse, because you still have to go back and learn RN skills which are totally different. Those who go the RN route first are just as good as nurses. Anyway, it is just a preference to which program you want to do first, but RN's come out with more options and better pay starting out. |

Wow! I noticed that too-the LPN to RN bridge seems to be an extra 12 months of classes-that is why I'm taking the 3 required pre-requ. first before I decide if I'm going to be an LPN or RN-either way I'll need them. I've taken all the general courses already (I have a Bachelor degree). I never realized how many options nurses have. |

Are you sure you meant RN's. Not in Chicago they don't.Maybe at an agency in CA. In NYC they make 23.00 or more but I neve heard 32 an Hour. for an LPN. I know nurse in CA make 36.00. |
|
lady_friend in Oak Park, Illinois 31 months ago |
Okay, I know 2 people who work for a registry and they have been in it for 2 years. Remember no benefits, its just an agency. RN's make more of course. The rates are higher for LPN's who take the IV certification course built in some programs. These rates can not happen without it. Things have changed for the LPN's over the years. |

2sexy, I know this is an opinion page. But do you? Different states pay different rates. Chill. This forum is here to learn I hope. I was just told at the hospital here that they encouraged me to get my LPN license because they really hired a lot, especially on the rehab floor where i will be working. the DON told me I would start out at 14 per hr. I know the nursing homes here pay 16 to 18. I am not trying to be false about this , only stating what I was told and encouraging ppl to go for it or nursing , what ever they desire. I am way to old to go thru 3 years or so of school. That is why i am looking to the LPN program here. It is only 9 to 12 months. |

Livelife53, There seems to be a showdown here about money, money, money, now people should use this forum to encourage people like Lpn's, etc. It's not to make people feel bad, 2sexy. Remember, it's the satisfaction you get from helping someone. Also, remember other benefits, shift differential, insurance, paid holidays, vacation, overtime, etc I think there are some hurt feelings. If you want to get your LPN, then that would be a blessing to your patients. Go for it!! Some people have a one track mind and if yoou noticed several flaws in what they are saying about LPN's. Why don't they join the RN forum, since they are so stuck on RN programs? |
|
livelife53 in Statesville, North Carolina 31 months ago |
....this is true. Money should not be the issue. It's working with people that is the whole reason I went for my cna. I am so behind on things I don't even think I could finish LPN and I know I couldn't do a full nursing program. For the colleges around here they pick and choose who gets in and it's very hard. They even have waiting lists. The only college around close is 50 miles away that does the LPN prog. I was just hoping I could do some of it online and do my clinicals on campus some how, but as I have searched I don't see how. University of Phoenix keeps calling, but i have not talked to them yet. Does anyone know about that?

There is also an online class in NC. I think you have to live in state. I have checked into it and yes, definitely. Of course you do have to do clinicals there. It is Davie Community College. It is not LPN to RN, it is LPN only. Also there is a nursing program that is separate. I am gonna take my placement test soon, but first I am studying the sample questions online so maybe I can test better , especially on my math/alg. I wish all of you the very best. Mary |

Daria in Oneida, New York said: I suggest that you are confusing online school advertisements for those programs with the idea that they aren't all scams. I am a job counselor now with a veteran's group, and we have researched all those so-called health care programs online -- 90% are rip offs and not approved for state licenses or certifications. You CANNOT become a CNA in my state "online." That's against the law -- you have to BE IN THE CLASSROOM AND ON THE FLOOR FOR CLINICALS for the duration of ANY cna program here. I am a lpn of two years and I use to be a CNA for 11 years. Let me correct this. You can challenge the CNA course. You don't even have to take a class. You just ave to be able to pass the procedure parts of the test as well as written. Maybe not in all states because I haven't researched all. And just because you did the research and you found some that were scams doesn't mean there aren't some you haven't come across. Any way For those of us that have taken long months of schooling "Great" but times are changing and computers are definetely making things where you don't have to go to a class. So if you haven't researched the particular school the person is talking about. Do not talk what you are unsure of. I'm not gonna hate. If you can do online course go for it. As long as you do the clinicals hands on , i don't quite see a difference. A teacher standing in front of you reading from the book or a teacher online in a video no difference. Only te hands on I would question. You have to hae clinicals. antd you can definetely take Tests online. i think it neat and workable for those who have kids which I don't. I am currently in RN school and i am not in a classroom all at home. I will do clinicals at the end. No difference again. Less drama from other students I say. Correction again employers won't investigate where you went to school for CNA or LPN, Never. |

Plus most RN that go to school first plan to go to schoot for two to three years, but somehow it ends up becoming 4 or five years. In one year you can make lots of money antd support your self through rN chool. ou will also have built up nursing experience and knowledge. When you do get your RN, you will be advance and not a dumb founded rN scratcing your head like a baby nurse all over again. You can just take charge. RN school won't be so overwhelming as LPN school because you will know the foundations and nthing will be so new to you. You will be advance over all the other rN school. Yuo will probably make better grades as an lpN. And you will already be a nurseLPN until you get it. On the other hand if you go to RN school first. You will be four years working at walmart or whereever low paying jobs struggling longer and frustrated. I know to many RN's that still haven't completed. When they finally get their RN , I the LPN can still dance circles around them with IV's and more i work te hospital making 24 an hour with shift differential while in RN school. And I am so high confident. RN school is a sinch for me. I know how to study better this second time and I know what to expect. Hope this helps. |

But if you didn't take any classes with them the place where you got a copy sent to them just go through the necessary protocol you did when you were applying to the university. If they were highschool transcripts just pay the fee and ask your school to send them where they need to go or get another copy. If you didn't attend any classes there you have nothing to worry about. Let them keep them and just get another copy from the original place. |

My advice? Pay them and get it over with. If those were accrediated classes you will need the credits, you don't want to take them over again. |
