Long term employment

I worked for one company 30 plus years. I loved it. I retired, now I am looking
for a new position. No one seems to want a 52 year old with 30 years experience.
Why would employers pass the more experienced help up? We go to work everyday,
we have a great work ethic, we have experience in so many ways. Does anyone
know the answer to this one?

Not to sound demeaning, but maybe your age? I have a friend that has been in maintenance for 23 years and I always told him to get a better paying job. He is so scared they wont hire him cause of his age so he doesnt even try. (Although he does pretty good pay wise) And he is only 57 with alot of experience. That and they know you will only be there a short time and leave and they have to look again anyways. Do you hire someone for 12 years or do you hire someone for 20 - 30 years? Im not trying to offend you, sorry if I did. But I know this is a big issue in some cases.

I am not offended because of my age, I am 52 and proud of it. I have 32 years is
predictive and preventive. I can understand age being a factor, but, it is
against the law to not hire because of age and gender. I am sure the
combination is a total killer, female and over 50. I do know that I have lots to
offer a company, and even if it is for 10 or 12 years, I can still train, and add
lots to setting up equipment and data bases.

You did not offend me, I am not age oriented. I can still work most of the
younger set under the table. I am looking for a company that still has values
and appreciates experience. One of the reasons that maintenance people are not
respected today is because they have no pride in their work. I was taught
old school, and that is a hard way to come up. I love maintenance work, and
I am proud that I was able to put in at least 32 years.
