What are the best ways you've found to fill your schedule? I have an office and a chair that I could take to someone's office, but no one coming in regularly... how do I get people calling for service in a time of recession, in a market predominately used by/serviced by females?

Dude! Sounds like yer screwed! No ones coming in regularly for females right now either. Men should really think about this b4 wasting any time or money on a massage education.

Hi Matt—

I hope you've found some answers since you posted but if you haven't ...

It IS tougher for men, it's true. Until they get their core clientele.

Tell me some things first:

Are you solely chair massage or do you do table also?
Is this your first career? If not, what did you do before?
What are you doing to market your practice?
What kind of people are you targeting your attentions on (you ideal clients)?
Is your office in another business?
What is around your location that you can take advantage of (offices, businesses, restaurants, ballparks, neighbors)?

The business I work for has many free articles on business building. You don't have to log in or give us your email or anything. www.naturaltouchmarketing.com/NTM-Article-Archives/Article-Archive-Index.php

We have a few interviews with people who have been personally successful: www.naturaltouchmarketing.com/NTM-Real-Stories-Intro.php
which includes an interview with John Vito, a brilliantly successful MT.

I also have a blog dedicated to massage marketing thoughts that may provide some inspiration: www.naturaltouchmarketing.com/blog/marketing-matters/

Let me know where you're head's at and I'll see what help I can give.

All my best,
Eileen

Do you have a website up that is found for the words 'massage, your city?

That is the best place to start because it is highly targeted. You will be getting people who are already interested in getting massage because that is what they are searching for.

While it is more challenging for men you can make what you want of it. You can let it bring you down or you can learn how to overcome adversity like women have for centuries by being the minority in the rest of the world. There are many successful men in the profession.

Figure out who is your ideal client and what solution do you provide.

These are a few good places to start learning more about how to create a website and market your business.

Hi Matt

Keep your eyes peeled for new openings that would do well with a Massage chair and submit a proposal through any connections you may have to that locations management or personnel. Just the other day I was thinking our local Whole Foods and the Washington Ferry system should have seated Massage available just like our local airport. Opportunities are everywhere if you only seize them.

Sometimes marketing an entire team is a better way to gather business than being a solo operation. It's easy to contract other MTs, once you know how. I use to provide seated massage for high end department stores, medical and dental offices, restaurants and special occasion events and simply called down my list of contractors to fill the number of MTs needed. Having your own business at this is really not that hard with a little research and dedication.

Good luck! www.hundredthousanddollarmassage.com

Thanks for the encouragement! I have been pursuing an angle at a Gold's Gym where I offer chair massage to members at $1/minute. Till now they've not done much in the way of promotion, and the results show as much of the time I'm standing around waiting for my next customer. I have had results getting trainers, staff and even a few members on my chair, and have made the contact to get the group exercise instructors to announce the service is now available. Perseverance and determination should win out over time, its just that I have bills due immediately, and am anxious to have my massage business support me. Prayers gratefully accepted. Thanks for reading. Namaste. Matt

Gyms are good! Convince those trainers and teachers that massage can help them be better athletes and/or get more out of their workouts.

I just had another newbie ask about promoting through a gym. Check out the comments if you are interested. Maybe there will be something that strikes a chord with you (again, you don't have to sign in or anything): www.naturaltouchmarketing.com/blog/marketing-matters/2009/05/do-not-give-up/
