Tania in Corsham, United Kingdom said: I know that Steiner want lots of experience, does mobile therapy experience count or do they need salon experience? that depends on the country you're aplying from. Usually, they require you to legaly work for someone after your training (school whatever), by the time you aply to them! like if your working byyourself, but you have no company name, it wouldn't be enough |

Like I said, I'm a hairstylist myself. Your passport, you should request ASAP (in my case I ttok a copy to my interview already), cause regarding the country you're coming from, if you're not american you'll need a VISA as well (you only take care of this after stiner send you your contract). In the interview, they are going to ask you when do you want to start.
So even if you are totally available, I would advice you to request 1 month, cause you have loads of stuff to arrange. Once you say the date that you're available to start on, they will send you an e-mail with the date you start. hairs stay at the academy basicaly 1 week. so, I think I answer to what you need. you can say when you would like to start! Just don't forget, if you ask lots of months, some people will go before you ;) |

AS FOR THE cruise lines you ll work for it will no be up to you to choose .STEINER will do it during school time in London. Usually the best ones are Crystal, Holland(much older clientele), Celebrity and Princess. They usually cater for a variety of people and they provide ($$$$$$$$) a better service. Most of Cruise Companies are OK for Massage Therapists. Evanise... I have so many questions about Steiner. Can you email me? tina.gijane@gmail.com

Thanks a lot for you offer:-) My concernes are if you can really work 10 hours a day, day after day, if you do get time to travell around, if the massage tables are ajustable in hight so you don't get tired, if you really earn money, and just main tips and knowlege we should all know before we signe a 9 month contract with Steiner. |

Ruth in Alicante, Spain 23 months ago |
I'm still not shure if to signe the contract with Stiener. Could any one with massage experience give some feed back of there experience? Was is rewarding, do you get injured fast, how can you do 10 hours of massage, what are the tips we should know before signing a 9 month contract and flying to the U.K.
Do you get good salaries, good tips?

Breckan in New York said: ok, another Steiner applicant here getting nervous reading these comments. My intentions for doing it are to travel, of course, and save a bunch of dough. Hey guys. I'm the same w/ Breckan. I just want to work hard, earn money, train + eat. I worry about all this hard-selling. I plan to apply to Steiner - a Personal Trainer for over 13yrs. Does anyone know what trainers have to sell? Training pks? And heard it was commission only??? Does that mean if I don't sell something, I get nothing? Don't we get a base/minimum wage at least??? And do I really need to worry about roommates or others having sex!? The last thing I need is to be stuck w/ a bunch of horny highschool kids for 9mths. |

What i understood is that, as a fitness instructor, you'll get less tips, work less hours, but you'l still can profit some good money (20.000 to 40000)

fabio Van Zeller in Mem Martins, Portugal 23 months ago |
So if you want to go in just for the money i think that you get better payed jobs in where you live- but remmenber that onboard you dont have any room or food expenses. If you want to train hard, eat well, forget it because the food is just ok, and train hard you can do it anywhere... If you're interested in a one life experience, that can be very nice or not, get in touch with other cultures, meet new people, put you-re body and mind on the stress limit and see how you'll react, and maybe save some good money, goo ahead! That is what and why i'll do it!
Hope that i was usefull to you |

rubmstr in Columbus, Ohio said: Has anyone done Massage Therapy on a cruise ship? Is it hard to get a job? Do they work you to death? Are they good to work for? A role such as massage therapy isn't likely to attract the kind of long hours that the cabin crew might. Though with many cruise lines, the pay from a service like massage therapy will mostly come from client tips. I recommend you try someone like Seabourn, one of the more upmarket brands, check them out at www.seabourncareers.com. Hope this helps!? |

Hey guys! So many questions hey? The beds are adjustable! Steiner has their own rules, however, regarding the ship youre going to, the rules can be diferent.. I worked on a Carnival Ship, so you can use the gym, you can use sauna, steam... anything, you can also go to our mess (were we eat), everytime they are open.. many times you want... you CANNOT save food on your cabin, but we did it anyway ;) you share your cabin with another spa girl, or ie, with another staff member (in males examples). steiner accept male massage therapist, but some cruise lines, such as carnival, don't... that's why I believe, the market is smaller... usually, our males in the spa, are managers, fitness our hairs... Like I said before, you have 1 + 1/2 day off a week... but that is arranged with your manager.. usually they have plenty of ways to give incentives. so for example... if you have a good docket, like 300§ in sales, he gives you 1 hour off, that you can take on a day that you're not off... that will alow you to go on port to have lunch or dinner... for example... basically, if you're used to work hard, is like a regular job! really! the only thing, pretty much every day you work at 06:30 am.. for fitness its different... usually the managers allow them to organize the gym by themselfs.. so imagine you're not a morning person, but your coleague is, you can arrange to do only the afternoon classes... but once more, that depends from ship to ship... regarding tips and comissions... fitness, on a class that costs 12usd a person, usually, can receive 1 to 3 usd tips... but with a BCA, that costs 35usd, if the clients enjoyes it, can receive 15! hairs, from a wash and blow dry, usually receive at least 5usd tips, with a color service, can achieve 50usd. massage, usually the average is 10 usd a massage, but on a couples massage, can get 20 to 50 usd each! like I said, everything depends on the type of ship you're going to... |

Do phones work? Do laptops work? Please let me know...thankyou in advance, Mandy Hi Mandy! I believe that depends from ship to ship! I will tell you how it is with Carnival! They have some computers available for crew. You buy a internet card (20usd) and you have 200m to spend online. You can use that internet card with those computers, or with your laptop in your cabin (sometimes the conection in our cabin its terrible). You'll have your home port with your crew center! There, you'll be able to also use some computers and send some packages home for example... Regarding phone calls.
You can use that card from your cabin (is basically a piece of plastic with some codes that you dial from your cabin). All cabins have phones. You are NOT able to receive phone calls from home to your cabin, but you are able to receive from another ship (its a satellite call). You can also buy an american number to use with your cell! But once more, that depends, from ship to ship! From what I experienced, its quite frustrating to people when they want to contac us, but its very easy for us to contac them! (hope that helped) |

chellyfish21 in O Fallon, Missouri said: Do you stay on the same ship the whole time? Or do you switch ships?? That usually depends on your ocupation. Fitness are the ones that usually are more able to change ships... sometimes cause they are doing so good regarding the ship they have, or cause they are so bad, compared from what they expect from them... I met 5 fitness, while I was on board, and 3 of them were transfered to bigger ships, and the other one to a very quite ship. They don't tell you in advance that you're going to be transfered... you are notice 2 days before usually... regarding the other ocupations, I believe the Ionithermie therapists (slimming treatments) are the other ones that might get a transfer.. usually the transfer are inside the same ship company, but it might also happen with different ones. they send you your flight tickets, you pay taxis and hotel expenses in advance, they will give you that mnoney back when you get to the other embarcation :) hope that helped! |

Hi again. I emailed Steiner here in South Africa, and I have an interview this coming Saturday. They said, amongst other things, I have to take along a uniform that I will use to do my practical exam on my model. I don't understand what they mean about that! I am a self employed mobile masseur and I don't use a uniform. I just wear comfortable, presentable clothes. and I'm ready to go.
|
|
Mandy2010 in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom 23 months ago |
hi babsido, myself and ALL the other girls on the same interview date as me wore smart clothes in the morning and took a tunic and a pair of trousers and flat shoes to get changed into for the practical part of it. make sure you wear full make-up, hair tied up, no nail polish only wear small earings and keep nails short. hope that helps, good luck. |
|
Babsido in Norway 23 months ago |
Thanx Mandy! That helps tons. So the tunic and pants, were they your uniform? My main concern is that I dont own a uniform. Never have. And wouldnt want to buy one just for an interview. Was there anyone in their own clothes? And the flat shoes, were they pumps or can it be sandals as well. Did you take your ear rings off when you did the massage? |
|
Babsido in Norway 23 months ago |
Another thing I need help with guys! I read here that for the interview, One has to study the anatomy. Do we have to label the whole thing? I suck at it! AND what do u do in the case of epilepsy?

Hannah in Auckland, New Zealand 22 months ago |
cont....the work is hard but if you are an optimistic person who enjoys challenging themselves and working in an environment where no two days are the same then I would highly recommend working at sea! 2 years on I still think about all the good times and amazing travel and have forgotten about all the nasty managers :) I'm not sure if steiner is the best company to work for or not but would love to hear form someone who has or is working for onboard spa company as I really would love to go back to sea!
|
|
Babsido in Norway 22 months ago |
Hi Hannah! Thanks for sharing your experience. Tell me, how much closet space does one get over there? I am considering going, have an interview in 2days and am thinking ahead:). . |
|
Hannah in Auckland, New Zealand 22 months ago |
Hi Babsido closet space is very limited onboard so try not to pack too much as you will end up doing lots of shopping in the ports along the way too! I ended up taking way too much and having to send packages home which can be expensive. You will share a cabin with one other person of the same sex! all the best for the interview :) |
|
Babsido in Norway 22 months ago |
Oh cool. That helps. Tell me, I c u worked in a spar. What did u do? I wanna do massage. I was told here that I need to learn the anatomy and to wear a massage uniform for the exam. I dont have uniform as i am self employed as a mobile therapist. Do u know if its acceptable to wear own clothes when doing the practical exam? |
|
marize in Aveiro, Portugal 22 months ago |
Hi mandy! From what I've been told, you're allow to have 6months vacation at home... if you request more than that, you'll have to return to training center again ;)so basically, you can travel between home, ship and home for years, without going back to the lovelly training center ;) Hi babsido, as hair, I was allowed to wear all black smart cloth for my second part of interview, I trully recommend you to buy a white tunic and white pants. Don't forget the presentation is highly avaluated, and believe me you don't want to be the only one in the room not wearing the proper cloth. I didn't take off nose piercing, or ear piercings. My recruiter Roksolana, was amaizing! At the end of all interviews, she aproach me saying that she loved my interview, but if I was aware that piercings, tatoos and my hair style, were not steiner style. Sure I was hired, but I took that risk... they don't have that much hairdressers aplying... at least 6 girls were not hired from massage department... and this is a small country... so I believe with other nacionalities, can be even more massive the number of girls that is not accepted! Just take care of your image! |
