Serena Anne in Surrey, British Columbia said: Hi Chad, hope your interview goes well. good luck. I have still not really found many other ships that are not stiener. when you look at their site they show about 15 cruise lines that they are affiliated with. and they are all the big ones. I also heard stiener bought up a lot of the seas in the 90's. anyway let me know how the interview goes.

I was not a therapist but worked closely with them. As the saying goes, "Every refuge has its price." Please think twice about working on a cruise ship. The amount of work you do in a short period of time wrecks havoc on your body. You may leave after your contract not ever wanting to do a massage again. You have a roommate in a very, very small windowless cabin. You constantly breathe recycled air. The food is not that great, either. The pressure to sell with Steiner is extreme. I was privy to the comments left by passengers, and every cruise there were multiple comments about how they would never get a massage again because of the hard sell. The therapists are constantly exhausted. Many of them made their way to the crew bar and would get totally tanked to let off steam. You do get 1 1/2 days off, but many times that 1/2 day is only on embarkation day, so you really have only day off. After a few months, the therapists rarely got off the ship because they were so tired. Steiner really doesn't care about you because they know there are many other people waiting to take your place. With that being said, the plus side is if you are dead broke after going to massage school and have a difficult time finding a job, then working for Steiner is kind of like a time-out to build up your finances. You will meet many people from diverse cultural backgrounds and you will realize how all alike we really are. I rotated on several ships and there were always very few Americans working. The rumor was we are a litigious bunch and so they like to shy away from them. A majority of the people only last one contract. A lot depends on who your supervisor is. A great supervisor can really enhance your experience and a bad one can make your life a living hell. Remember that they are under a lot of pressure, as well. Go into it with the idea that this is a life experience, and you will come out alive and with many stories to tell your grandchildren. |

Evan f in Sugar Land, Texas said: Hello. WHY THEY ERASED MY POST???? Hello...my name is Christina I am writing you because I think you may be the most honest. Plus you are from the states. I do not know if this has anything to do with some of the messages that i have read. However, you mentioned that you made 12 thousand during a 8 month contract did that include tips. Also I was told at the school which is part of the Stiener group that they paid for you to stay in a 5 star hotel when you port. Being that I am from the states will I go to the academy in London. I believe i have read that people went to either London or to Canada. I also thought they paid you while you were in the academy. Did you have your own cabin on the cruise ship? Is it so that you work 3 to 4 days and then off for 3 to 4 days. It is amazing how people experiences can go from 1 extreme to another...I have been reading messages and listening to the counseler at school |

Also do you think that people go from 1 extreme to another because they become home sick and maybe perhaps they get cought up inthe glamor of the ship and want to play and not do any work? I am curious because I have read blog where people quit after a short period of time and others renew ther contracts a few times...I can understand this not being a carrer move because you are away...me personally I am about to retire from corrections and thought this might be a good opportunity to travel and while earning money to open my own day spa. I will retire when I turn 42...after 20 years of corrections I am ready for something completely different... |

rubmstr in Columbus, Ohio said: Has anyone done Massage Therapy on a cruise ship? Is it hard to get a job? Do they work you to death? Are they good to work for? Yes the work is hard but the money is excellent. Stiener seems to own all the spas on all the ships. If anyone knows a company other then Stiener please let me know. Stiener is NOT a good company to work for. They push sales very hard along with competition between therapist. It gets very ugly. |

Stiener does not own any ships they are a contractor on many many ships. By the way Steiner is NOT a good company to work for. It is all about the sales. They pit therapist against each other to compete. It made life hell on the ship for me since I was number one nearly every week. Is there any other company that has spas on Cruise ships. |

Wow you better get the facts straight before you apply. U.S. citizens go to Hawaii. You share a small cabin with 3 others.

michael in Hayes, United Kingdom said: Hi guys, you are not searching properly enough to find out other cruielines, you really need to research, but your right steiner owns majority of the seas! Can you tell me which of these companies you prefered. I have searched for a year on and off and yours is the first list with names other then Stiener (whom I hated working for). What did you do? I was the fitness director. Made 12,000 in 3 months. I was a slave to sales but in the end I had the money in my pocket. |

is there any cruise ship that a person can work on and not have to push sales of products on the customer in order to get money? |

I think Mi had a few good comapnies listed. Just don't work for Stiener as a fitness director. It's all sales based. As I said I made lots of money but won no friends. It was very hard core sales.

dear tracey it all depends on what your after, experience, travel, saving money parties, getting fit etc... dont have expectation and it will a better venture. dont be pushed around be assertive and you will have lows and highs. but all in all it should be a gate way for better things to come if you use steiner correctly and not against. did 2 contacts with them and loved it and hated it, and on other spa companies. It will be a great experience if your prepared for hard work! good luck Michael |

I AM THE HARDEST WORKER AROUND> it had nothing to do with the experience. If you are younger like to drink don't mind people having sex in the bed next to you then you'll do fine. All the selling and hard work was a big part of the job but not the problem for me. It was the ship life itself. So no worries about your choice just be prepared for the unexpected.

DONT LISTEN TO ALL THAT NEGATIVE CRAP. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING FOR STEINER,AND HAVE BEEN CRUISING THE MEXICAN RIVIERA FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS. IT IS THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. IT IS THE SAME IN ANY JOB, WORK HARD, AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED. YOU ARE TREATED FAIRLY, AND THERE IS NOT A HUGE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE TO SELL. STEINER WANT YOU TO WORK ETHICALLY. AND IF YOU ARE BETTER AT GETTING YOUR CLIENTS TO COME IN FOR ANOTHER MASSAGE OR TREATMENT, THEN FOCOS ON THIS. SOMETIMES WE DO A WHOLE TEN DAY CRUISE AND SELL NOTHING. HOWEVER, I MAY END UP SEEING SEVERAL OF MY CLIENTS 3 TIMES. MY CLIENTS ACTUALLY THANK ME FOR NOT DOING THE HARD SELL ON THEM, AND RE BOOK ME BECAUSE OF THIS. IF YOU ARE SICK, YOU ARE SICK. IF YOU DONT ABUSE YOUR WORKING RIGHTS, YOU WILL BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING. |

Everyone has different wants, needs and expectations. That is life. Therefore everyone's experience will vary from excellent to not so good. Anyone considering a job on a cruise ship should take into consideration their own ability to adapt to the confides of ship life. Of COURSE (we got it) it is hard work being a massage therapist. Massage therapy is a hard working job period. No matter where you work.

almost all of them...but be aware of steiner!! for them it´s just about money...they don´t care about you, at all!!! i worked on a ship for a few month for steiner...it´s all about retail...and the sellery is way to less for that hard work-12 or 14 hours a day with 1 or 2 hours break in between...i heared a lot of times that it is good to work for the harding brothers, you don´t have to retail there...and the conditions are better. but get more informations about them... |

Wow.. I graduated as a C.M.T. for Nevada School of Massage Therapy in March. I recieved the invatation to go to London for job training then off to sea. I love to travel, Love to massage but I hate selling. I got into massage therapy because clients come in to relax and heal...they shut up and dont have much attitude...so therefor they dont trigger me to have an attitude. I have read all the comments on this page and im so nervous. I am to arrive in London Aug 10th. Its alot of money to get there and be comfortable...so every other day im thinking I can take all this money and go back home to California and work in spa. I havent bought my airline ticket to london yet... I have already injured myself from massaging before I started school. I hope I get a sign on what I should do. Everyone is telling me to go so I have no regrets. I am massaging now making 3,000 a month and Im not working hard, living comfortably and have freedom to do what ever i want....I sure I hope I get a sign! This was like a dream come true for me to get this job at Steiner...I caant wait for this dream to be over... HELP |
