Hi again Ethel,
Don't fell bad at all. Last year I went to 1199 on the Grand Concourse where I was interviewed. The interview went great but they say I needed to get more experience and come back. I wanted to work in the hospital where you can get benefits.

I am planning to go back there very soon. You said that being certified mean that you are more sharp. I don't agree at all. Some of us are not certified and are doing very well not to say that one shouldn't be certified.

Athough one is certified they don't want to pay you over $12 worse if you just leave school they are saying you need more experience.

Ethel, where I am working now I have given them my resume before and I decided to go there another time, and see what happened at that moment they was looking for someone. So go back and send resume to all the places you went before.

I will keep an eye out for you. It was nice corresponding with you.

Hi Jackie:
It's what I'm talking about, YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCED! You get tired of hearing that after spending over a year in school studying and passing all of your classes and tests. How're you're going to get experienced if you can't get the chance or opportunity. I said to one Doctor's office in an e-mail GIVE ME A CHANCE! Trust me no one has responded to any of my e-mail as far as trying to seek employment. I went on an interview back in March 2008, the doctor told me she was looking for a CERTIFIED PHLEBOTOMIST. When she printed on Craigslists.org that she wanted a Medical Receptionist. As of now I'm taking Customer Service training for one month with job placement afterwards. I'm going to take the test again to become CERTIFIED. I didn't go to school for nothing.

Hello Ethel,

Don't give up. After you are certified go back to those doctor's office and apply. I am not a CERTIFIED PHLEBOTOMIST and I am the one who does all the vein puncture at my job.

Working with an OB/GYN doctor there's a lot of blood work to be done. The doctors and relevant authorities need to give us a chance to prove our selves. Have some senior worker to guide us as we go on.

They too had to get experience before going on their own. My doctor knew I had the potential and the ability. I went there to show them that I have what they were looking for.

Some of us do have the ability and just want the chance to prove ourselves.

For me I love to help people and that is why I never give up. That is my passion. So, Ethel don't give up.

Hi Annie,
We as MA need to encourage other MA. We know that it is so hard when leaving school to pick up a job. The medical field needs to give MA students a chance who a fresh mean just leaving school.

For me I want to climb the ladder of success. I want to go further as a RN.

So MA's don't give up continue to search. And if by any chance MA who are leaving a job to go to a next you can post it here for those who looking.

I think this is a good idea. We need to look out for each other.
Don't think this is a silly idea. Let us try it.

Hi Jackie:
Writing you once again, there are so-o-o many websites you can go to, I recently gave you a few. The Medical Staffing Network want you to have a (1)year experience within the last (3) years to work for them, also the New York Nurse Registry. Then there is the Towne Nursing,(Bronx, N.Y.) Partners in care, (New York City), New York Daily News, to name a few. Also the Employment Guide for Medical Assistants. If you're not CERTIFIED, think about it, okay!!!
Ethel, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Hi Ethel,
How are you today? I was giving a number to call which I did but it seems the office is out of my reach. Anyway I will be going for an interview on Friday.

The person who is offering a job out there in Scardale, I went there almost 6 months for an interview and it was a man who interview me saying that he will get back to me and up to now I have not heard nothing from him.
Still I see he is still asking for Medical Assistant. Something is wrong, in New York vacancy fill so fast so what's going on up there in Scardale?

Medical Assistant any office where hires person so often or need some one to fill that position something is wrong. I don't want to be there.
As Medical Assistant one of the question one should asked the person who is doing the hiring who is the longest employee? From the answer one can tell if that is a place you want to work.
Ethel, tell you the truth if I know that workers come and go so often I don't want to stay.

The number that I have gotton I could give it to you but it is too far for you. If you wish you can take it down.

Hi Jackie:
Thanks so much for the offer, you're right it is too far. That's Scarsdale New York! Keep in mind that this is an all white town, MAJORITY. So most likely they are going to want someone who is more experienced. Let's just stay right in the New York Area, the 5 boros. Unless there's something in Long Island. I'm not going to far out there either. But I'll take a chance. We really can't have limitations on ourselves as Medical Assistants but the Transit system is not that great. Plus you have to make sure you go to bed early just to get up early in order to get there. Plus I have a 2 year old that I'm adopting. Also consider the salary, the weekly cost. I say call to get the requirements of the position, if you get no response then DON'T BOTHER. Chances are they lost out on someone who could have been a great candidate for that position. I live in Brooklyn, New York. Ethel! Good Luck!

Nurse course work is very hard. I have known many who struggle through it (especially the math). The LPN program might not be as difficult. Try asking about this on an RN or LPN board on Indeed,or try looking at allnurses.com.

Hi Tamika!
In response to your message, I say yes, your chances are good. I recently graduated in July 2007 from College as an Medical Assistant/Nurses Assistant. Right now I'm unemployed because I trying to find a job. I live in Brooklyn, New York. Just hope that you when you begin to do the externship you be placed in a facility that will hopefully hire you. It happens most of the time for Medical Assistants, but unfortunately it didn't happen for me. The facility I externed in was a very small facility and didn't need any extra help. So I'm still looking to be hired somewhere without being CERTIFIED with only internship experience. The medical assistance course is a very good course. I learned a lot, you can always expand yourself. You will learn a lot. Good luck okay! Ethel

Being that you haven't worked in over 5 years, you may have a GAP in your resume. So just go back to school to try to close up the GAPS a little. Hi Sandy:
Sorry about what happened to you 12 years ago. My daughter is a Correction Officer in Rikers Island and she said that you'll probaly be alright, and that no one is going to bother you. It's good you decided to set a career goal for yourself, you deserve it. I recently graduated in July 2007 from ASA as a Medical Assistant/Nurses Assistant. It's a good course to take. You learn a lot. The LPN is more studying and dealing with a lot of math and chemistry especially if you go to College. But if you can handle it then go for it. Don't let any negativity try to get in your way from achieving your goals. If other people can do it who has been in situations like yours, then certainly you can okay. I wish you all the best and start working to set your goals. Ethel Brooklyn New York

Can you tell me what you mean by "state" certifications? I have asked this before on these forums and nobody answers. I know in Calif. they have a board that regulates medical assistants but I don't know if other states do. Ohio doesn't. Does New York?

Hi CeeTee:
Well congratulations! I see you can't find a job either. You can't give up okay. Just keep on looking eventually something will come up for you. Meanwhile, sometimes you might have to go in another direction before you get what you want. It's better to have more than one skill under your belt. Because I'm in the same situation, unemployed, can't find a job as a Medical Assistant. I graduated in July 2007 with an Associates Degree. The Medical Assistant have a job website, but you got to have experience, speak a second language, and be CERTIFIED. Can you believe that? So I'm in a month course taking Customer service, in which they're suppose to help you find a job afterwards. Keep in mind that whatever we do is cutomer service. Your internship, babysitting, McDonald's, etc. I live in Brooklyn, New York. They're a lot of websites to go on so keep browsing and searching around, okay. Good lock, Ethel.

Hi L.C.
It's hard to find a job for M A'S because they want experience, speak a second language, and CERTIFICATION. It's what I was telling you before about being CERTIFIED. It's called the (NHA)the National Healthcareers Association. They have their own website www.nha.now or .com. They even have their own employment center. But they want you to become CERTIFIED. Being that there are many medical professions, they have a test for most of the professions, and it cost money depending on the profession. For the Medical Assistant it is 200 questions to answer. You must get 114 right and pass with an 80 or more. You must buy their book to study for what kind of medical assistant you're taking the test for. There's CCMA and CMA. The booklet cost $89.00. If you fail you get (2)chances for $52.00. I know. You must know an extensive amount about the heart, phlebotomy, EKG and it's leads, negative and positive, depolarization, etc. So it's why mainly we can't find a job. Unless you get hired from your internship, otherwise I don't think we .have a chance. But we can't give up. If you become CERTIFIED, then it won't probaly be a problem then. Regardless of how much money we spent and have to pay back. So look into this website okay. Good Luck. Ethel, Brooklyn New York. Also meanwhile you're not working, take up another skill. It's what I'm doing now. until I get hired somewhere.
