Remember the offices are worried about overhead. They want to pay you a low salary and train you the way they want you. There should be plenty available in the private sector. Hospitals have little internships. Agencies require at least 1 year.I have been doing it a long time so why pay me 3 dollars more. Just take the low salary and leave if they will not give you a raise after one year. They will pay you more with a bit of experience and Oh yeah, take the CMA a soon as possible. Most will not take you unless you have a CMA certificate or an RMA liscense. |

Why is it that this forum always argues about nurses? I don't get it. It's a MEDICAL ASSISTANT FORUM! Concentrate on MEDICAL ASSISTING instead of trying to bash other careers. If you're that jealous of nurses, just apply to nursing school! Become one! Nothing is impossible if you work hard and put your mind to it. BOTTOM LINE- Nurses aren't going ANYWHERE anytime soon. The economy is bad. Yes, many ARE struggling..but it's all subjective, as the entire COUNTRY is struggling right now. Who brainwashes some of the people on here. Dear Lord. It's like saying Nurses are going to be replacing Doctors..and that Surg. Techs are going to replace Surgeons. BE FOR REAL! I thought I saw a lot of stupidity in nursing threads..but the medical assisting forum totally, completely, utterly, without a DOUBT..beats it out! |

So? said: People who keep crowing about how LPN's are being phased out of hospitals glibly ignore the fact that LPN's still have no problem finding well-paid positions in nursing homes. LTC's are a booming business and no one is talking about phasing LPN's out there. Maybe in some Hospitals it depends on the state. nursinglink.monster.com/news/articles/9154-rising-demand-and-pay-for-lpns |

I totally agree with plabby in Jackson Heights, New York, this forum is crazy!!!! Some of these people are suppose to be professional individuals who are either working already in the field or looking to work in the medical field and is so immature and very unprofessional in how they speak to people in this forum and it makes me wonder how well they do in their professional lives with their clients in the workplace. This forum was recommeded to me by someone to learn and gain information to better myself in the medical field and boy do I have regrets for ever loggin on in this forum. On the other hand, there have been times where some individuals has given me some tips that I can use in my profession on how to advance or whatever, but for the most part, these people are ALWAYS putting each other down, making negative comments about other professions and cursing at each other out about nothing. Grow up people and do not make any of these professions look bad unless u want to make urself look bad. Can we all agree to disagree in a mature and professional way??? |

first, no one said you wouldn't find a job as a nurse.Second..just wanted to make you aware that if you want to work in a "Nursing Home" great because that is probably where you will end up. As a matter of fact, that was the discussion regarding the "phasing out" of LPN's. They will end up in the nursing homes, because most LPN's do not wish to work there and that is where the demand will be. No, RMA's won't be hired, but most do not want to work there anyway. It seems "reality" is problem for you. I strongly suggest you check into the future of LPN's.

But why try and make people feel bad for wanting to become an LPN? You're a MA! It seems like you're still at it. Just let it go. If you are happy being a MA let it be. Those who are happy doing other things just let it be. You are still aurguing over nothing. I mean you must really hate nurses. It's silly, even if it's in black and white your accusations are false you would still aurgue with yourself. For Pete's sake please stop with the rude comments. I would rather make over 20.00 an hour in a nursing home than nothing at all. Everytime they get this forum back to everyone being civil here comes something else, it's just so tired some. Everyone is equal,GIVE IT A REST! |

Hey Markkay, How you doing? Looks like the same old thing is starting up again "huh"! I got a bomb droped on me yesterday at work. The Air force is down sizing and they had to let a few contractors go and I happened to be one of the few that were let go. I do have another job lined up...I'm not upset about it for I saw it coming along time and so I was getting ready for the storm so to speak. I'm going back to work for a Nursing Ageny I used to work for before I went to work at Hill, AFB up in Layton Utah. They were telling me that they have so many jobs that they can't fill. They have been calling me to come back for a while now...like I always tell my family everything happens for a reason. Even some people might not agree with not all jobs are safe anymore on a lighter side there are jobs out there for everybody. I God is looking out for me and my family and as well with all other brothers and sisters out there. Merry Christmas everyone and God bless all of you. |

The recession is effecting all of us. Companies have gone bankrupt; Mortgage and Construction, Auto Manufacturing Plants and Dealerships, Hospitals, Restaurants, Schools and Retail stores, remember Circuit City?, how about Mervyn's?...etc. Others are laying off employees to stay afloat. My sister, Director of Accounting at UCSD, was forced to take a ten percent pay cut and a sixteen day per month furlough(unpaid time off). I like her positive energy. She's happy she still has her job and appreciates the extra time she can spend with her husband and her four year old son. The company her husband works for has layed off some employees, but he still has his job, so they're okay for now. We're all feeling it. The competition for jobs is intense due to the high unemployment rate. There are jobs available, we just have to be more resourceful and work harder to find them. These are difficult times, but not impossible. Please, have Faith, stay positive and be more supportive of one another. Matt I appreciate your effort in changing the direction of this forum. Merry Christmas everyone!. |

I think that everyone should pursue their own chose of careers. As for myself, I absolutely love being a CMA. This is what rewards me, some patients will only ask for me to draw their blood and then tell everyone how great I am. When the patient thanks you for doing such a good job, it makes it worthwhile. Enjoy your holidays |

We should always have a Plan B....just in case. I know you will be all right. When faced with adversity, the good ones always land on their feet. Unfortunately, like other occupations here in California, jobs for MAs are not as plentiful as they were before the recession hit. I have been working in the Healthcare Field for nearly 13 years as a Respiratory Therapist. April, 2010 will be the end of my 13th year and the start of my 14th. I have never seen things this bad. Change is a constant. These are difficult times, but not impossible. I agree with you. There is always room for improvement. The more we learn and the more skills we attain, the more diverse we become, making us more valuable to employers. Keep up with your good works Matt. Merry Christmas!. |

I believe everyone should have a choice in what they want to do as a career, but why would anyone pay so much money to attend a school that probably isn't licensed and spend so long in school and have trouble getting a job and when you finally get a job you get not much more then minimum wage. I almost made the mistake of doing an ma program but luckily I withdrew and got a refund and am using the money towards an rn degree. |

Agency work is un-reliable and it's hard to get into alot of the hospitals here. I too am looking for a plan b, I simply just want to work. This is just a heads up for those who think we a recession proof, so many of the hospital's here use nursing for there floor treatments. So simply reducing the number of RT's needed on staff. |

For some it may not only be a second career, but also another souce of income. For others whose spouse earns enough income for the household, they may wish to contribute to their community by working in Healthcare while also earning extra income for their household. Although Nursing is a great career, it isn't for everyone. I have worked with RNs for nearly 13 years. I know their job is stressful. Money doesn't guarantee happiness. My friend and (RT)Respiratory Therapist coworker learned this lesson after accepting a ridiculously higher offer(Nurse's salary) from another employer and leaving us. She couldn't pass it up and to tell you the truth, I wouldn't have either. She hated the job and had to wait 2 years for another position to open up and is now back with us. Woohoo!. It's good to have her back and I actually earned a referral bonus by helping her get the job with our employer. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I like what I do as a Respiratory Therapist and my job is less stressful. Follow your heart. Merry Christmas to all!. |

I was wondering if anyone out there would recommend becoming a MA or is there something else out there that could be more useful with two years of college? If you really want to be an MA, go to a university instead of one of these little trade schools like i did. Everyday, i wish i had gone to a local college for my training. However, time was of essence to me so i took the shorter road. I work hard to stay positive about finding a job in the field of MA (but you don't get paid for looking for a job). Look around, if there is a university or even a community college you can attend to be an MA go for that. i believe your progress into employment will be quicker and you may even receive beter pay. Although i really liked the school i attended, and some people have been hired, you'll learn more in a university or community college. Some do offer training for MA. I wish you much success!! |
