tiffany in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania said: I recently lost my job and I am looking for a home business. my backround is medical billing for medical and dental offices. I am looking at a company in California where I have to buy their software and they will provide me with the doctors. the software cost is 199 dollars and they stated they are not a get rich quick place and you do have to do the work to get paid. I am afraid of doing it just because that 199 is like 3 bills that I could be paying. please tell me what you think. and If you have ever heard of the company NETWORK HEALTH??? From my understanding no company can give you Doctors, this is something you must interview and contract on your own. Hope this is helpful. I have taught medical billing and worked over 30 years experience. |

I am currently in school for MIBC. I would like to work from home, but know that it may not happen right away. I have read some of the posts here and it seems like people are so quick to discourage one another. Just because one person went to school for billing and couldn't find work, doesn't mean the next person will not find work. To all those looking to work from home, keep looking! We will find what we need. If I see something or hear something, I will surely post it. |

Here is an article I wrote awhile back that explains medical billing "employment" and "working from home." Good luck to you. medicalbillingbusinessresources.com/articles/work_at_home_scams.htm |

It is very difficult to land a client. I only bill for a home care agency from my home @ this time. I work @ a medical group, entering charges & I also bill straight to Medicare for a hospice org. You truly have to be a sales person to get out there & do effective marketing.Have you checked out all the different softwares out there? I would use a internet based software ex; LEONARDO MD, ADVANCED MD etc. You should not buy a software program that can cost thousands of dollars. |
|
Becky Hudson in Leicester, North Carolina 7 months ago |
You can pretty much disregard everything this person just said. You DO want to invest in a good software and IT WILL NOT cost you just a couple hundred bucks. I opened my business 2 months ago and I have 2 clients. Prior to beginning my business, I was doing billing for an attorney. I took the course at www.medicalbillingcourse.com and afterwards I used their marketing support. My marketing material is beautiful because of them and it works! If you send out crappy looking material, and you use a shoddy software ---- well, you'll probably be in the same boat as the person who wrote what I just responded to. Becky |

am the owner of a Medical Billing company. The fact is this: if you have no practical experience as a medical biller, you are going to have a hard time starting your own business regardless of how good you're marketing materials look and how much money you spend on software. I started as an office manager for a sleep center. I did that for 10 years. I learned the billing on my own and found my first client through this job. My billing konwledge was very specialized. After my first contract was signed and in place with that first client, I signed up for a medical billing course to gain the rest of the billing information I knew I needed to be able to provide the best possible outcomes for my client. That was 3 years ago and since then, word of mouth is what has made my company successful. If you have no practical experience, I don't see how you can expect a physician to hire your company just because you have a piece of paper that says you know how to bill. You have never worked a claim to see the red tape or hoops you have to jump through to get paid. If you apply for a job and they say you need experience to get a job, and you really want to pursue this option, be persistant and don't give up. Working for a physician will give you the experience in the day in and day out cycle of claims and collections. Giving up is not an option when you have your own business. Think of it this way...would you hand your wallet to a stranger? That's what you are asking a physician to do if you have no experience. Experience has allowed my company to find thousands of dollars for my clients in uncollected claims from their previous large billing companies who left them as unrecoverable. In a short amount of time, those claims were resubmitted and reworked and paid. If there are physicians in PA looking for billing services here, please feel free to contact me at ksimmon@dejazzd.co |

Some used to say and maybe still do that because people want to work from home they are lazy or other negatives. Now that we live in a society where we all have the equipment to do just that. These people and companies are preying on jobless people. They charge them for an "education" in such as medical billing, promise them opportunities that just aren't there. They should be shut down. They are no better than any other scam. I am so sick of people taking advantage instead of helping. Why not use power for good. Takes the same energy with much more reward. Shame on you. |

If you can help me...Please email me at Poohs_220@yahoo.com I would wholeheartedly direct you to medicalbillingcourse.com. Or google Tammy Harlan medical billing; she is nationally renowned and highly respected and her program is endorsed by many national trade orgainizations for over 20 years. In researching for myself, I learned that they only dealt with Medical Billing and weren't a diploma mill that taught unnecessary anatomy, terminology that wasn't applicable to billing. Post graduation, I consulted with her relative to who to start my business, again, her wealth of knowledge and credibility has allowed for tremendous success, the packages that I bought are viewable at medicalbillingbusiness resources.com. I for one, couldn't have been happier with the outcome and wouldn't hesitate to contact Tammy; you will be enlightened and won't be disappointed. |

I've looked at my assoc degree in accounting and have the same thoughts; so now I've decided to take a medical billing course hoping to enhance my accounting degree but the job market is not promising no matter how much education anyone has. Nevertheless, this is my last attempt to educate myself and then I just wait and hope. Practically every industry has an influx of graduating students hoping to find a job. Don't give up looking, something is out there with your name on it but keep your options open because it may not be packaged the way you want it for now. |

I am in school to become a medical coder/biller and I am intersted in medical transcription. You dont want to get into transcription. There is no money in it anymore. I have done transcription for 15 years and I am not nearly making the money I did just 5 years ago. The industry of transcription has gone down the tubes. Stick with billing, you will be glad you did!:) |

Your best bet is to try to find an entry level HIM job, something in medical records, account follow up, insurance verification, etc. Get your foot in the door, gain some experience and move up to a coding job. There are too many regulations, fines and audits for an employer to trust their most important aspect of their business, the finances, to someone who does not have experience. So you can't really blame them for wanting you to have some actual hands on experience first. |

i have been in medical billing industry for the past one year, I was not good in job but I also enjoyed very much. As the shift time completely in the night it started effecting my health and i decided to leave the job. now currently i am doing a job in interior designing in the day time. but i still wanted to do the medical billing job as AR caller in the part time. i will be more than to get some good reply from you people. as this is my last hope to get back to medical billing industry. |

Valentine is completely correct! As you can see on this board it's hard to get a job via traditional means with no hands on experience so you must start thinking and living outside the box. I have one friend that got their present billing job by offering to clean the physicians office for free a certain amount of days a week and once they earned the doctors/staffs trust, they asked to learn how the billing was done within the office so when the regular biller was sick or on vacation he would fill in for them. Two months later, he was helping the regular biller so much that they doubled/tripled the amount of money the practice was used to seeing and he was taken on full time as the billier and the biller was promoted to strictly coding patients charts. |

That's the trouble I have been finding is that know one will hire you if you don't have atleast 1-2 years experience. It is very frustrating and I have been looking for about a year and also have started volunteering at the hospital hoping that helps but I don't think I am getting any experience there that will help. |
