Hello everyone, I am currently enrolled in an accredited Medical Billing and Coding course and once completed like to work from home. I was wondering if anyone who currently works from home would be willing to answer a few questions on setup, pros, cons and so forth. I am not sure if you have been able to find anyone to help you out or not, but I am 26 years old and I have two BEAUTIFUL kids ages 6 and 4. I currently have my AA in Business onlilne and am continuing my education for a BS in Psychology online. My husband was recently laid off from WSU after being there for over 7 years. However, he just started a new job, the kids are in school all day and I would not mind a job from home to help pay some of the bills we got behind on from the lay off. I now have plenty of time to do something since I don't have little ones here all day anymore and school does not keep me occupied too much. I am a self-starter, self-taught, self-motivated, responsible, and an excellent communicator both online and in person or over the phone. I have always believed that I would be good at a number of things; hence the reason I have a Bus. degree and now going for Psychology. I am also considering doing medical billing and coding as it has always been something I am interested in. At this point, I do not have certification for it, but if I was your assistant, I have confidence that I would learn quickly and produce results for you. The truth is that unless you start your own business, it is NOT likely you will find a "work from home" employment opportunity in this industry. The costs and liability to the practice are not beneficial. Medical practices are making more cut-backs than most industries right now, hiring an employee to work from home is an added expense not to mention liability.

knowing how to network and get physicians work need help. Is there a website that doctors subscribe to?

You have to get out there and market! Direct mail marketing, resume marketing, website.. the whole 9 yards. Use Yellow Pages, internet. It's also a good idea to set aside some time and do some cold-calling and many of us have also been successful making drop-in's to smaller practices. Chiropractors and mental health providers seem to be easy to start out with. After the first client or two referrals will come via word-of mouth but you have to keep marketing!

Hello, I currently have the opportunity to go back to school to start a new career. I would like to become a medical biller. Many of the comments I have read are mainly on the topic of working from home. My question is . . . upon completion of the medical billing course from a school not a home study program should I be able to find gainful employment. And I guess my last question of confidence; in comparison of other budding medical training program would medical billing be a solid choice?

I don't like to be discouraging, however it's my opinion you are going to find doctors making staff cut-backs due to the economy, rather than looking for staff. More practices will be outsourcing which will benefit the medical billing companies. JMO
