Since these boards are all over the place I thought I would start a new listing to give experience in regards to staffing agencies and their recruitment or your experience of working for an agency. I thought this would be a good reference tool for all the new coders who keep asking where can they find an entry level position. Good luck and sound off! Ones that have contacted me so far: Peak Health Solutions

Melony in West Hills, California said: i emailed you and never heard back from you Same here. Funny, I had initially posted for a REMOTE position. Very clearly. She comes in, quotes my post and requests that I should apply...what, to travel again? Heck no. What a waste of time. So, NOTE TO RECRUITERS: If we are asking for a hospital position, remote position, or travel position, PLEASE make sure that what YOU have to offer is something WE give a **** about. Thanks. What, too direct? :P |

I've actually been swamped with work lately and haven't been checking my emails like I should--week before last, I worked 55 hours!! :^O I've sent resumes out, but no idea if I could take anything right now that requires a commute (still addicted to the hallway commute I have right now LOL). How's things in Cali? |

Hello, my name is Annette. I just pass my CCS exam in April of this Year. I am a new grad with very little expericence. I am having a hard time looking for a job that will hire me. Everyone wants people with experience, but how will I get the expericence if no one will hire me? I am a fast and hard worker. I wanted to know if any one know if there a job or agency that will hire a new grad in California? Thanks for the help. Annette |

Hi Carolyne, They use remote coders in some states and Florida is one of them. You go thru a training class with them, pass the test at the end of the class. They supply the laptop, books etc. Let me know if you need more info but go on the website and look around. Send in your resume with a cover letter letting them know what you're interested in. Good Luck,

i just recently became interested in the becoming an HIM but i just realized you have to go about being an HIT first. how much longer does it take after being an RHIT to become an HIM? also how much do HITs make on average or in Florida more specifically? i dont know much about the field besides medical records.. is it a stresful field? should i go into this field rather than PTA or OTA? any info would be very appreciated. thanks in advance! |

Must admit I am a little confused by your question. There isn't a HIM degree or title, that is just the area of a hospital that is responsible for patients Health Information. There is an associates degree in HIT, after sitting for a certification, they are a RHIT And there is a bachelors degree, and they are RHIAs according to a salary calculator RHITs make about $70,000 and RHITs in florida about $65,000, but that seems a bit high or maybe what a very experienced RHIT might make. As a new grad, without experience you would definitely not make that much right away. Health Information and PTA/OTA are night and day careers. With HIM, you would rarely interact with patients or that many people, where with a PTA/OTA you would work with patients all day long and probably require a fair amount of compassion. Which appeals to you and your personality? I don't like people, so I am a coder. |
