Hi Haris, I'm not in the Coding and Billing course. I'm only taking my Medical Coding course online. I just barely started my course. However, the course shouldn't take too long if you spend time on it. People finish as fast as 5 month and you have about an year to finish this course so it's not too bad comparing to most regular classes on campus. It's at your own pace so you manage your own time on studying. Plus they always have someone to help you if you need it throughout the week. My course will take me into Medical coding in a billing dept. I don't want to work in a hospital setting so I'm taking this course so I can move up in my company. Well good luck. |

I would like to know the answers to this as well. I'm thinking about learning coding and billing both. Did you ever find the answers to the questions you list here? |

I took the course through Allied also. I did it in 6 months. It is a hard course and it takes alot of time. But, hang in there. When you think you are not getting it you will. Alot do the workbook, it is important. It will help things sink in. If you need help with anything call them. They will help you. Good Luck!!!!! |

I am currently taking Allied's medical billing course. The course is very easy to learn at my own pace. The best part is that I didn't have to quit my day job just to study medical billing and the student service is so great, willing to help me out every single questions I had. Go with allied school, you won't regret your choice. |

I was considering getting into this field after 8 years as an administrative assistant. I did a search for jobs for medical coders in my area. The hospital I would like to work at is requiring coders to have a bachelor's degree as well. Whats your opinion, would 8 years as an administrator qualify me? |
|
cann in Cincinnati, Ohio 37 months ago |
KJJames in Litleton, I would call the HR dept and ask why they need a coder to have a bachelor's degree. I can not see where that would be useful in coding, But I could be wrong. I haven't seen anything like that here in cincinnati. Good Luck!!!!! |

I was just wondering if anyone has gotten a job after finishing the medical coding course through allied medical school? If so how long did it take them to find a job? Has anyone used their job placement program? |

I, too would like to know if anyone taking Allied's coding course with the job assistance program was able to find a job right out of the course. It is imperative that I am able to get a job right away. Anyone with experience with the Job assistance program Allied has? |
|
cann in Cincinnati, Ohio 35 months ago |
Hi Kathy, I too went to Allied and paid for the MCAN job assistance program and I have not gotten anywhere with the person I am working with. She tells me to do some volunteer work, or call a hospital and see if they will let me do some shadowing. Also get CPR certified. What has that got to do with anything. She only e-mailed me one time to let me know of jobs on career builder. I am going to call somebody and complain. |

Do you become legally certified after finishing the medical billing course and will you fully know how to use software for billing? I need to know because I want to do billing for my father and want to know if this course is beneficial. |

In order to be certified you have to pass the certification exam. |

You get a certificate or you get certified through an organization. To be beneficial to employers you need to have a CCS or CCS-P, maybe a CPC or CPC-H. If you do not know what these are you have not done your own homewok. See what licenses or certifications (not certificates) that an employer wants and go get that. In this economy thats the only way to make it. Competition is steep. |

I have not heard from anyone on this forum who has completed Allied's Medical Coding course if they had gotten a job or not. I did contact my sales person though, and we talked about the issue. Plus, I know that this is an acredited

Still no job. Allied School hasn't help me much. I have gotten more interviews on my own. Before I signed up, I was told that they would place me in a doctors office. Still nothing. I wouldn't have spent all that money if I had known different. |

I didn't go to ciny state because they wanted me to take alot of courses I didn't need. This way I was able to just take coding. I have been a medical biller for 7 years and have worked with coding before. |

I'm only on chap.14.....All I know is that we better hope to finish our courses within the 18 month period and if we're lucky management will extend the course for another 6 month but otherwise after that if you still need more time and management doesn't approve for another extension you'll have to re-enroll for another fee..Which may be about $200. That really suck because when I got into this program I really thought the course was at our pace especially paying the amount we are paying for the course and we work full time. I don't know how other people were able to finish that course in such a little time. It's unbelievable unless they were full time student maybe? Hope that helps. I TOO AM INQUIRING ABOUT UMA AN ACCREDITED ALLIED SCHOOL PROGRAM
THANKS IS IT VERY BORING??? |

There are lots of jobs on craigslist just search "coder" or "biller". A few of the hosptials were hiring a month or so ago. Pay isn't great but we are in a recession. I'm working for $7.50 but its a job and experience, i'm still in school though. |

I have a question regarding Kaplan University and its online course of Applied Science in Medical Office Management. I was wondering if anyone has taken this course, or if they currently have a job in this career. I was hoping for some feedback on how this course is, and how this job goes, and how well it pays and if you need alot more school experience for this job. Hoping that someone can help me with this...hoping that i am not making a mistake by taking this course. The only medical background that i have is being a PCA, and working in a nursing home, i hope that this doesnt hurt me. They told me that i did not have to have experience to get a job in this field. Am i making a mistake...please help me!! Thanks! |

I got an entry level job in a hospital to get established but it has nothing to do with coding. I plan on volunteering in the Health Information Management department. I also plan on using my schools on the job experience required for the major as experience as well. |

For one thing that is alot of money. And the coding and billing field is full. There are NOT any jobs out there. Every school tells you that there are plenty of coding and billing jobs. That is a flat out lie. Go into another field. I don't know what to tell you only that I have 7 yrs of billing and coding and can't get a job anywhere. And yes the pay is bad unless you have years and years of training and are highly certified. |

For 15K you could get an associates degree at a community college. I wouldn't pay 15K for a coding course. Look into Health Information Management. You can do coding but there are many other jobs as well that you can do. |

%15,000 is way too much for this degree. I agree you can get an AA maybe RHIT for that amount. Check DSU.edu. They are a 4 year accredited school and they have an AHIMA accredited billing and coding program. I am sure even with out of state it'll be way less than 15k. |
