I was wondering about e-book coding books. I have found a few sites that carry them, but right now I don’t have the money for them. I also know you can’t use e-books on the CPC exam. But I was wondering if anyone used them in their normal day to day coding?

Here are the sites I came across:

www.mobipocket.com/en/eBooks/eBookDetails.asp?BookID=17443

pmiconline.stores.yahoo.net/20elbo.html

www.medicalcodingbooks.com/ebooks/

This is an actual internet site that you log into and search from the site.

I bought 2010 code books from eBay. $50 each for CPT and ICD and you can also tried craisglist.

The first link you gave was 2004 book, so forget about it and I never heard of that book.

I don't recommend e-code books because when you code, people mostly use code book and/or encoder software.

Thanks for the info Kate75. Are the 2010 in use now? I'm so confused over all of this stuff. Getting ready for final, I feel as if I have learn nothing. Now they want to go and change all of the rules.

New code books comes out every year (October). Some codes are changed/deleted/revised (less than 1% change) each year, so if you use old code books, you may come up with the outdated code.

The books that I use are ICD-9-CM 2010 (not ICD-10-CM). The ICD-10-CM/PCS will start on Oct 2013, but private insurance may not go with this deadline.

Good to know that, here lately I confuse so easily I'm not sure I know my own name. So before I take my CPC test I need to buy yet more books so I don't fail. This is a never ending money trap without the promise of a job isn't?

Yeh, that is correct. This field is hard to get into. I think you don't have to buy new code books unless you plan to take certification exam or you have to. I know that coder should buy new code books every year, but I know that it is not easy to pay for this every year.
