I'm about to sit for my RHIT EXAM in a couple of weeks. I've been studying using the AHIMA RHIT EXAM PREP because one of my instructor's suggested that AHIMA are the ones that offter the test so it's better to study from their guides. I just hope & pray to the LORD each day to please guide me with this exam. Does anyone know if the questions on the actual test is mainly scenario based???? |

Rina, the test questions will not be any of the question you have already studied, I took the test six months ago and passed you must know the material study the material not just the questions but what the questions ask you can start with the AHIMA entry level competencies guidelines they are founded on the AHIMA website. good luck! |

The only requirement was that I pass my RHIA EXAM and they would take me into their 8 week program to help me strengthen my coding skills. There was a contract that needed to be signed that I would stay with company for certain amount of time for the training they were giving me. I'm a new graduate and recently got my RHIT and would like to know the ins and outs about their new graduate program, but can't seem to find anything. I've emailed them twice, but no information. Any thoughts? |

The RHIT new test specification (effective October 2011) it's more clear to me. I felt the test once and am trying to prepare now and sit for it early 2012 since there might be other requirements when ICD-10 comes in 2013? I have so much stuff that pertains to RHIT exam that I gathered over years....I don't know where to begin & that's my biggest problem. |

Yes, in Bend, Oregon - Beverlee Jackson runs the HIT program at the college and she gives a class just for the RHIT exam in October of 2011. At Centreal Oregon Community College, Bend, OR. |

Hello All, I just took my RHIT exam yersterday and failed by 8points, I used the AHIMA RHIT Exam prep and did not find any of the questions that I studied in the Exam, I know that they are not going to be the same but the questions in the test were 3x more difficult. I have researched and found out about the PRG RHIT exam prep that is coming this December for the new 2012 RHIT test which is going to be updated this October. Good luck to all and reply if you have used the PRG and passed! |

Ae in Los Angeles, California said: Hello All, I bought both study guides (AHIMA & PRG) to prepare for the RHIT exam. I got much more out of the PRG RHIT exam prep. The AHIMA prep is very generic and didn't have any detailed explanations. I'll begin studying for the CCS exam and will bypass the AHIMA prep and stick with the PRG. Utilize the timed tests on the CD and study any areas where your scores are low. |

Hello Ae, Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel since I felt my RHIT too. Did you purchase all of the domains for the RHIT Exam Prep? I was going to purchase the series, but since you said that they didn't help you, probably I should not. Thank you,

I passed the RHIT on first attempt. I am not bragging but, I did really well. In fact, my whole graduating class passed. However, this was years ago. My program director suggested we purchase the Examination Review Medical Records by Susan Pritchard Bailey, from the Medical Examination Publishing Company. I and 6 of my friends devoured this book, along with our text books from our 2 year program. I found the book to be enormously helpful. It touches on everything you learn in school from coding, to statistics, filing systems, HIPAA and medical records law, release of information, computer applications and databases and more. The statistical chapter was very helpful with all the formulas. I do not know if this book is still around but, I highly suggest you purchase it. Good luck, the more you study the better prepared. And, possibly, study harder the subjects that you feel you are weak in, that way you know you will pass. The exam changes all the time so, just because you failed one time does not mean that you will fail again. The second time you will get another completely different test. Hang in there, never give up! |

Theresa in Round Lake, Illinois said: I graduated from college in 2005 in health information technology and due to family problems, I had to put aside taking the RHIT exam. Now, 2 1/2 years later, I wanted to persue it. But most of the stuff I learned, including the coding part, might be obsolete now. I need advice on what to do. Do I go back and get another associate in HIT and start over again or can I just buy the new editions of the books I used when I was studying to study for the RHIT exam? Thanks! Alfred State College in New York offers an awesome program for $25.00 that focus's on RHIT review. Well worth the money |

I am taking the RHIT in 2 weeks, I am studying from the AHIMA Exam Preparation book. Did anyone find it helpful and could you please say what types of questions were they lengthy or really tricky or even out of syllabus.

Hey Joylin in Redlands, CA. I took the RHIT on December 29th 2011, and I won't recieve my score until sometime next month; but I used the PRG book (Professional Review Guide and John's book) to study. Honestly, I felt prepared using those books!! The PRG seemed very helpful to me because the questions inside of the PRG book are a great examples to what's on the test. Also, the PRG book includes helpful testing tips!!! Is the AHIMA exam prep the same thing as the PRG book?? John's is a great reference tool to read. I hope the infomation I provided is helpful to you. Best wishes to you on your test!! |

I do have a coding question maybe someone can help me with....patient has a "history of primary biliary cirrhosis" the only thing I'm coming up with is V12.3...doesn't seem right Plus, "history of portal hypertension" When I look on the hypertension chart I find the portal hypertension 572.3...you can have a history or portal hypertension right? |

Hello, I took my RHIT exam this past Friday and I passed! I have been in the HIM field as a coder for 10 years but I went back to school for my HIT degree and graduated in 2010. Study tips: Prayer :), I also studied for about 3 weeks every night and I read the Johns book and took the tests in each chapter except for a few. I used the PRG 2010 and completed the tests in each section. For people that do not have a coding background make sure you know your basic coding guidelines: You can code probable, suspect with inpatient only, when you have an acute condition and a chronic.. list acute 1st etc. I found the test to be pretty easy to understand and not as hard as the PRG book I used to study. Good luck to everyone! You can do it |
