My director over our hospital owned clinic suggested we collect a minimum copay of 10.00 from people we aren't able to receive benefit information from their insurance company.
We have a couple of insurance plans that we can never get ahold of anyone or they won't return our calls then when they deny the claims we have to provide documentation they were called on numerous occasions.
She is recommending we go ahead and collect this minimum copay since we do not collect one, but I'm not sure this is legal.

Any ideas on this plan or a website I might be able to find more information regarding the collection of copays if there is no copay?

This does not sound legal to me. You have to read your insurance contracts. They have stipulations on what you can and can't collect up front.
I would be very careful.
