I have worked in Florida for 12 years. I was hired at the hospital where I did my clinicals. I graduated in 1997 and at that time we took a State of Florida test in Orlando not the ASCP or other test (also was a paper test not on computer...LOL). I have been working at the same hospital since. My question is since I have a State of Florida certificate instead of one from one of the agencies what would happen if I moved to another state? Would I have to have an ASCP? I have heard some states accept Florida Licenses? Does anyone know where I could find out which states it is? I think it was GA and NC (maybe a few others?). |

State that require you to have their specific license will not allow that. There are some jobs that specifically ask for the ASCP so you might be out of luck there, but there are some places that are very desperate and might let you work b/c you have your degree without certification. |

unfortunately, your state license is only valid for Florida.(unless some states specifically say they accept FL license) However, you can work in any state that does not require licensing(but salary will be lower because MLT's can perform the same duty) If you take the AAB in Florida, you can work in any state that accepts AAB, except in California(you will have to take a specific AAB) You can also take the national ASCP, (check their routes) - and once passed - you can work anywhere in US. |

The hospital I work at in Virginia requires national certification such as ASCP. I have the opposite problem. I passed my MT(ASCP) registry exam 19 years ago and have been working in the field continuously since before graduation (BSMT). Now my husband is looking into getting a job in Florida and I understand that I will need to take the Florida licensure exam. I need to find review materials and/or sample tests but my web search hasn't yielded much. |

To my knowledge there is no more Florida exam since 1999. They will now accept most national certifications and still alot of other paperwork. |

So are you saying that as long as I have my MT(ASCP), I don't need to take Florida's exam in order to be employed in Florida as a MT? That would be nice. What other paperwork do you mean? |

I will receive my BS in MedTech in Pennsylvania in May 2010. Want to relocate to Florida and have checked out the Florida licensure. Requires passing ASCP exam (I will take this summer) and experience, but I am a new college grad (no experience yet, except for internship). So, I can't get licensed there without experience it seems. Is that true? How much expereince? Maybe I need to stay here in PA and work for a while first. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I have my florida license as well. All you need to do is submit your OFFICIAL transcripts to the FL. department of health (make sure your school is a naacls acred program). Then you have to call ASCP to send you OFFICAL test scores to the FLorida Board as well. You have to take two CE credits 1. medical errors 2.HIV/body fluids The fee is 205 dollars I believe, but you do not need any experience, just the things I mentioned. |

I own a company that specializes in Laser Hair Removal, Photofacials, Microdermabrasion, and other practices. I am looking for space in a medical office in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area to open up my business. If you could guide me into finding a better way to find a location than this, it would be greatly appreciate it, or if you are interested please contact me at TSCGroupEnterprise@gmail.com Thanks! |
