To all CSMLS students

Does the CSMLS exam include lots of parisitolgy,mycology and histology.I don't see anyone mentioning these topics much on this forum.

Hey Marky, I am taking some refresher courses. I was requested to take all 5 b/c I have been out of the workforce for more than 5 years.

I have completed Chem and Heme and currently doing Micro; transfusion to follow.

What all are u taking and when are u planning on taking the exam?

havent started processing yet cos im still weighin if im going to take csmls or the quebec boards. i inquired at the quebec order and the process sounds frustrating w all the language exam etc.. besides im looking forward to moving out to either ontario or elsewhere in english canada. you have an email ad where i could msg u? i hope you could help me w my questions. thanks

I agree, in hind site, it might be best to just go and take the course at BCIT for instance. However, that will have to be ur call.

It is very expensive and time consuming. When in doubt contact CSMLS directly.

Good Luck and I feel your pain~!

Just a suggestion, you might want to look into doing a Med Lab Assistant course. That's what I am doing -- its much cheaper and u can find work and it will pay u decent wages.

Hello there,

Does anyone have any info for someone from Ireland wishing to get PLA from the CSMLS? In Ireland, med labs (till very recently) did a 3 year Med Lab course, and a follow on BSc. I'm wondering if I'll need to get all the transcripts and course breakdowns from both colleges. I'm living in Ontario now, having graduated in 2001, and it sounds like it's going to be a real pain..

ultrasound technician? what kind of ultrasound is it? I am a registered medical technologist and an international medical technologist (ASCPi) but my work deals with vascular ultrasound, I am now a vascular sonographer. I graduated BS medical technoloy). I only had a special training with regards to my vascular work. Yah you can definitely practice ultrasonography. You need to have training plus a self study course to take the exam later. Higher salary as well. :)

Has anyone done the CSMLS general exam recently? I've studied and worked in Australia and England but not sure whether the questions relate to the Canadian medical laboratory science courses or do they relate to laboratory experience? Its a competency based exam as opposed to university exams that are based on theoretical concepts. So, I am bit unsure as to exactly what the exam assesses. I've looked at the competency profile but it doesn't really help. Practice questions would have been helpful in the CSMLS Exam booket (other than the three provided).

Im an MSc in Microbiology. Can I register with CSMLS? I have not done my medical technology course. I have nearly 16 years experience in Clinical labs in Microbiology in India. The other alternative for me was to register with the Canadian college of Microbiologists. But registering with them, will it fetch me a microbiology lab job?

All these books were very useful to me.
I had to invest time and money to get into my field at once.

You can download the CSMLS Laboratory Safety Manual (2006) from The Pirate Bay for free. Just search CSMLS.

hi guys! im a Canadian citizen, though i finished BS medical technology in the Philippines (UST, will graduate on April, 2012). can anyone please send me review materials for CSMLS? i called ACTS review center, asking if their ASCP program will tackle the same topics for CSMLS. they said no, unfortunately. i'd really appreciate it if anyone would send me study tips and review materials for CSMLS. i'll probably take their November batch.

ASCP is in USA and CSMLS in Canada certification examination . There is no centre in India. In order to write CSMLS you need to go through credential evaluation. Visit CSMLS.org

Hello shellzo,

Not to worry much. Go for ur PLA 1 . Give as much as info u can specially any experience u,ve got in any area of lab counts alot . If they put u for refresher course, still no worries cs u can get one free course from CSMLS every month.
It looks like a big pain, but it's not impossible. So keep ur hopes high, and do not give up.
