Here are some reasons that people do not want standards:
1. Could not pass the ascp
2. Foreign MT not eligible for ASCP
3. MLT wanting to work in the clinical lab
4. People with biology, chemistry, microbiology degrees thinking they can work
in the clinical lab without training or certification

Yes good list.

Its a very simple solution to the shortage:

1. create standards entry level: BS MT (ASCP)

2. which will equate to more pay due to standards

3. more pay, students in the major universities will be interested in the field,
thus no more shortage.
