CLS48 in California said: I do believe that DH accepts 40 students. I worked at a few hospitals where the DH students rotated at. According to them, it's 2 students per rotation site, and at the time they said there were about 34 spots. I guess they are expanding their program.

Mellow, you have to be a student of DH to apply to the clinical part of DH. This is why I was turned off by the program since I already had a bachelors. You have to apply to get into the school, but there is no interview. The interview is only for the clinical portion. The classes only allow a certain number of students so even if you wanted to take a lot, you are limited to how many spots are available per class. They also give priority to graduate students for the classes. Thus, you could be going there for 3 or 4 years before you even get into their clinical portion of 1 year.

You cannot apply to the UCI program unless you have a bachelors, which you won't have at DH with just the preclinical classes. If you give more info about how many years of college you have and if you have a degree already, it would be helpful in giving you the best advice on what to do.

So, I have a BA degree in Biological Sciences but I'm missing pre-reqs like hematology, microbiology, immunology, and etc. What exactly are the pre-reqs that I need to take in order to get accepted to CSUDH clinical portion of the CLS training program? Also, what is the tuition like at DH for non-Cali-residents?

CLS48 is correct. You need to be a student of CSUDH in order to take the pre-req courses. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A BACHELORS, you will be accepted as a POST-BACC student. If you do not have a bachelors, then obviously, you need to apply as an undergrad, and major in Clinical Science then on your 4th year as an undergrad, you will do the internship. Either way, being accepted as a student at CSUDH is easy. Once you apply for the clinical portion is when all the competition kicks in.

Furthermore, No you cannot go taking classes all willy nilly. The reason is because: 1) Summer Classes for Clinical Science pre-reqs are not offered (budget cuts). 2) Impacted classes are difficult to get into sometimes (ex. Clinical Hematology, Medical Micro, etc.) But if you are applying for the internship position that academic year, then you are given priority. 3.) For the Classes I just mentioned, the number of seats are governed by how many students the laboratory portion of the class can seat. For instance, 3 lab sections, 12 students per lab...so clin hematology can only have 36 students. Again, the director controls this very diligently (again...budget).

Currently, Prof. Harris is the director. Contact her for more detailed questions and she should be happy to help you. However, her workload is high, so be patient if you do not get a response almost immediately. Regardless, she can tell you all you need to know.

I hope this helps.

Strain,

Roughly a year ago, I was in your shoes regarding pre-reqs. So to get into the clinical portion of CSUDH, it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that you finish those pre-reqs you just mentioned before your apply for the clinical portion of CSUDH. Or, at the very least, they can be unfinished at the time of your application, but finished with grades posted BEFORE you actually START your year-long internship.

Now, for your other question, since I am a CA resident, I honestly have no clue as to what tuition would be for non-residents. All I know is that it would be significantly LARGER for you. At least that is my opinion since I come from humble origins. haha. If I were rich, I might think differently. So, you will have to do your own leg work for more accurate info. on that matter I'm afraid.
