Seems years ago someone printed an advertisement with their secretary's Social Security number on the ad and the woman had to get a new one because so many people saw the ad and started using it (40,000 of them). It is now an invalid number and the Social Security folks know it is invalid. You can read the details here: |

I'm Margie. You don't need to get the board exams sa pinas! pls check out this website www.ascp.org/international. i think all you need to do is to have your transcripts evaluated by a certifying agency here in the states such as WES.If you're planning to work in California, you need to take ASCP international...pero if not naman I think AMT will do kase di pa tayo pwede kumuha ng ASCP. At least amg AMT recognized din sa ibang states..pero not in California. I've been here in Georgia for 10 months now...and still reviewing for the exams! pls e-mail me if you have some more questions...books you can refer on the ascp website! Good luck! Happy New Year na din! |

Hello! And hi Maria! I also came from Cebu and obtained my BSMT there (VC). Actually, it depends on the hospital that you want to apply. Some would prefer ASCP certified. Others, ASCP or equivalent registry-which is AMT or NCA. I'm still trying to rview for my AMT but planning to take the ASCP as well. Keep in touch. |

Just visit the amt website (www.amt1.com) and there you can find under the reference materials the reviewer to be used and how to order it online. It's by Cuveillo (2 volumes). This is what most of my friends used who also took the AMT. Take care! |

For those inquiring about ASCP certifications, please note as follows:
- The international ASCPi exams are tailored to the international market. The content areas for international examinations do not include questions related to US policies, OSHA, CLIA regulations, or US safety regulations. - The International examinations only include questions related to ISO standards, international standards, international accreditation and safety. - The international designation, "ASCPi" will only be given to applicants who do not meet the U.S. ASCP certification requirements and who work in foreign laboratories. - The "ASCPi" certification designation WILL NOT replace the "ASCP" credentialing for individuals seeking certification and employment in US laboratories. If you take the certification exam at an internation location, i.e., the Philippines, you will be given the "ASCPi" credentials. - If an ASCPi certified individual desires to be ASCP certified and work in the United States, the applicant may be required to take the US version of the BOR examination particularly if state licensure mandates such a provision ( most states do since the ASCPi does not cover US policies and US regulations). If you have additional questions, you can email us at:

How about if I want to take the ASCP here to be able to work as a medtech since some hospitals require for one to be ASP certified? I earned my bachelors degree in the Phil but I am a permanent resident here in the U.S. Should I still take the ASCPi? I am currently trying to review for AMT. |

If you are already in the states you can take the ASCP certification exam. In addition to passing the ASCP exam, you still need to meet the education and training requirements in order for you to get the ASCP certification, this designation is acceptable in most states. However, there are several states such as California which require med techs to be licensed. AMT certification is still not accepted in all states. You need to check the requirements for your state where you want to work to confirm what type of certification and/or licensure they require to practice as medical technologist . |

The type of certification you need will depend on the state where you want to work. Each state have their own requirements., i.e. California only recognizes ASCP and AAB certifications. Attached is the link to the ASCP. Certifying Examinations:

Hi, no problem. Here is the link for the ASCP Hematology Specialist Rquirements: www.ascp.org/Certification/CertifyingExaminations/cert_procedures/eligibility/sh.aspx If you are in the Philippines, there is a Medical Technologists organization called PAMET. They are very active in the field of MT and have contacts with the PAMET USA organization. Since they are in Manila, they may be able to provide you with more guidance. Best regards,

We are currently in the process of interviewing applicants from outside the US this week. We need two night shifts. We need someone with visa screen (AMT or ASCP, english test). The hospital has a history of sponsoring 5 Filipinos for a green card. Send resume to docdennil@yahoo.com if interested |

AAB is also a certifying organization just like ASCP.They are both recognized by California. But as far as Im concerned, there's no AAB in the Philippines yet.You can take the ASCPi and it is also being recognized by the state of California. You said that you already passed AMT.Why dont you look for other states like Iowa and Florida.I think they are accepting AMT. |

ALL of these books are worth like $200.00 (rough estimate only for I dont remember anymore the EXACT prices of these books). The most expensive is the Koneman's. other alternative is you buy them USED, in that way, you'll not pay that much. |

Florida no longer offers their own exam, you simply need to take a qualifying exam (I took the AAB exam because it is recognized in all states that require a license). But be aware that it can take several weeks for them to verify that you met all of Florida's qualifications for getting a license. Also, if you have a BS it will make the process much easier otherwise you have to prove from your various employers that you have the minimal experience needed. We also have a blood banking specialist license to which you will need if you work for a blood bank and not license in all areas.... if I remember right criminal history can possible keep you from obtaining a license. |
