I work fulltime during the day, and parttime at home keying as a medical transcriptionist. I am finding a large weakness of mine is proofreading. It is very difficult to proof one's own work, but at this point, I don't have a choice. Is there an on-line method of proofing, other than "spell check", which picks up on misspelled med terminology, correct abbreviations, etc.? |

There are some tricks you might try. One is proofing backwards, starting at the end and working you way to the beginning. Mistakes often jump out at you that way. I assume you're using Stedman's medical spellchecker already. |

I'm interested in being able to work from home and I've heard that the medical transcription industry is a good place to start. I've always stayed home with the kids (4), but they are older now and I need to do something that makes me feel like I'm contributing to the family finances. I am fairly good at typing and my grammer is good as well. I do have my own (newer) computer and an office with a door to keep the kids out. Do I sound like someone who would be successful at this job, and if so, how do I locate a job and get started in this business? |

momof4, a good place to start is by researching MT schools, which you can do here: |

Does anyone have experience in what the job opportunities are for part time medical transcriptionists, working at twenty hours or less per week? what about if you are not a speedy typist (let's say thirty five words a minute)? |
