sarah p in chappell, Nebraska said: Hi Cassandra-I'm a recent Medical Transcription Graduate and am having no luck in obtaining a job, also. I've been on the search for about 3 months now, and have only had a few replies to all of the many applications I've filled out. I'm getting very impatient and discouraged. It seems everyone wants someone with 2 or more years experience to do the job, well if we don't have experience are we ever going to get a job? Hi Sarah,

Jane Foltz in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania said: I finished the Medical Transcriptionist Course with At Home Professionals in December, 2011 and have not been able to even find anyone interested in speaking to me about employment without 1-2 years employment. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Hi Jane,

Hi Jane, I am also in Pittsburgh. There are 2 companies that I have worked for in the past but just had a baby and haven't worked for them as an independent contractor for a few months. My advice to you is to contact a smaller company via email and just explain that you are a new MT that just graduated and would like to have a chance transcribing. I started to transcribe even while I was in school for 2 years. So I am sure that was to my advantage, but I do believe you can still work if you put yourself out there. The approach above as I have mentioned worked for me. I hope this helps you. Good luck to you. |

ask companies if they do internship programs. I worked for me and now I have a job. It sucks no being paid to internship, but it is a foot in the door. |

Hi cassandra, my name is carrie and I too have graduated from a transcription program and have found the exact same thing!! you either have to have acute care experience or two or more years experience, it is very frustrating. the only way I think to get a job is to network, I am not sure who to network, try linkedin and also post your resume on MTjobs.com, the oldest transcription website, you may have luck there, good luck, if you find something maybe we can keep in contact, my email address is mcarrie13@yahoo.com-good luck out there! |

Hello All! I have been reading the posts and I am so glad I stumbled upon this site. I have been a transcriptionist for a cardiologist for about 3 years part-time until I was laid-off from my "day job.". I started the CareerStep program and am almost done. Since I have the cardiology experience, would I be able to find work before graduation? |

Mary in Los Angeles, California said: Here's another tip about volunteering. Again, I live in Orange County, CA. Does anyone remember when Orange County declared bankruptcy??? When this happened, I had an "AHA!" moment. I contacted the OC Sheriff-Coroner's office to see if I could work there as a volunteer. At that time, I was working in the Radiation-Oncology Department at UCI Medical Center in Orange as a medical transcriptionist. I wanted to learn Pathology terminology, so I thought what better way than to work as a volunteer at the Coroner's office. Well it turned out that all but one full-time medical transcriptionist had been laid off, and there was a nine-month backlog of autopsy reports to transcribe!!! Let me tell you, I was welcomed with open arms! The education and experience I gained from volunteering was priceless! Not only that, but that sole full-time transcriptionist was nearing retirement...hmmm...and who do you think would have been the ideal candidate to replace her? That is so helpful. I put out the same suggestion on another site and got no response. I am a newly graduated MT and looking for that first experience. I would much prefer an onsite position to improve my training. Never thought to volunteer at the morgue. Thanks. |
