Usually stuff that seems to be too good to be true is, or comes at an expensive tuition fee. Get a babysitter and go back to school for a year and you'll be done. You don't need a BSN unless you're planning to do administrative stuff. Just my $0.02 I agree with you 100%! |

raj in Union City, California said: where did you go for this because iam doing the indiana state university program and they actually do credit them... This forum I attended was a year ago. Requirements may be different now. I was informed at that time, that yes, your classes are definitely credited by the Home study course & by the board of nursing BUT you are not eligible to sit and take the California State Board of Licensing for RN. They said that there was a "freeze" & State Board will take a couple of years or so to begin accepting testers from Online/homestudy courses. Call State Boards to check. Let me know. |

Indiana state is an acceptable entity for exam by licensure in California. I hear it's more expensive. Excelsior College graduate, must have> 1000 acceptable RN hours in another state before they will endorse but that is case by case bases. My problem is that if a BSN from Excelsior is acceptable for United States Armed forces, in fact you may go to officer boot camp than what's the problem? I think I'll do Excelsoir and enlist, if California wants hours? than hours in the armed forces puts me way beyond entry level nurses from California. Tell me, how are you doing now in the Indiana State? |

After talking to about 10 HR managers I concluded that as a graduate of Excelsior I could not get a job as a new RN without either a year of experience or working in a nursing home first. It is totally possible to pass their exams without buying any study guides from anyone. I passed every exam with an “A” and only bought the school’s suggested textbooks to study from. hey go to mycourse.minnay.net

One must be careful of college network period. I think you are doing the right thing and wish the best for you @ISU I have money tied up in CN and they have the nerve to tell me what I can do with the money, what I can't, where I can go and where I can't in relation to their programs. That's my own personal story but Im not saying that no one can be successful with them it's just the red tape. As time goes on a person will see hopefully sooner than later. |

Pre-motherhood I've always heard of parents juggling school, work and their families-- and I must say, I never truely appreciated their hardships until I found myself in their shoes! Anyways, this program is approved by the CA Board of Registered Nursing and is NLN approved. I will be truthful with you, however; the majority of it is home-based so you must be very disciplined and able to study without the structure of a classroom setting. The cost really depends if you have any prior coursework/college credit. I can have the Program Advisor contact you for a free evaluation-- you can find out on the spot what your tuition costs would be, and have any other questions answered that you may have. If you like, email me your contact number and the best time to reach you at lvntobsnonline@gmail.com and I'll have him contact you. Thanks and best wishes! Also is the program approved by NLN or Ca. Board of Nursing? I been a L.V.N. for some years now and haven't been to school for awhile, will the courses be to challenging for a new student. Bruce, I am in texas and attaining the ArN with the Rue-excelisor Arn program. Doing the online program is helpful in staying disciplined with the 9 tests needed and clinicals, and ARN state board exam. I have been doing the home study. The hardest challenge is to schedule a time to study every night no matter what. The materials are easy to understand with a good written test book as you read through the study material. The testing is done at a testing center with a fee for each test. It is done via a computer program. I have made good grades so far being that I have been a LVN since 1978 with college hours before going to nursing school. The wonderfull fact about nursing is you will always be employed as long as your license is intact.

The expense the the distance program through College network is true, it cost the same if not more than attending a university campus in CA because you do Collab with Indiana State U. You may want to take tranferable general ed at communtiy college; units are now twice as much as they were before ($26). Indiana State has taken excelsior's place and is oked by the state board of California for LVN BSN. |

I am currently an LVN in Palm Springs, and can anybody who is doing the ISU LVN-BSN program online, please give me any information on how the clinicals are worked out. Someone preferably in the Southern California area. Is there a list of perceptors that you choose from, or how does that work? |

For the clinicals you find a nurse(who has at least a BSN) in your local area to be your preceptor. Before starting though you have to pass 4 nursing challenge exams and the TEAS. Deadline for January start is Nov 1st, for Fall Start June 1st(I think). I have the four study guides available for sale for the nursing courses if you're interested. If interested please email me at Nurse021@hotmail.com |

I recently signed up for a live online course to prepare for the GMAT. Since signing up, my situation has changed and where I needed to take your course online, I now have the chance to take it in a classroom setting. However, when I called to cancel my online course, I was told I would not receive a refund. Ridiculous, is what I thought, as I have not received the course materials and have not logged in to view any course content. I made the argument that if I did not receive a full refund I would not purchase the classroom course from your company. This argument was not interpreted with logic and instead the ego of Mrs. Williams (to whom I was speaking at ext. 2659) got involved. She told me I could either pay a penalty of $100 or apply my money to the classroom course. She then proceeded to tell me about the costs in processing my online course for the time I was signed up, but did not use. The point is, I was planning on getting a full refund, managing that money until the time came to sign up for the classroom course in Denver this summer, and apply it there. However, I am nettled to pay the $100 "processing fee" (which is really just money taken for services not received), so I will not be signing up for you classroom course this summer, unless you wish to improve my view of your company. Additionally, I now consider that $100 sunk cost. So in response, I have decided to "work" the money off. I get paid $37.4555 per hour at my job. So I will work online for roughly 2.67 hours explaining on forums and blog posts why potential customers should avoid your company at all costs. I am 26 years old and belong to a dem |

Going great so far. The great thing about this program is you can apply for FEDERAL financial aid. With Excelsior you cannot. It may take a little longer to get a BSN, but your earning potential is greater after you get out, and with federal financial aid your loan is deferred until you get out and start working. I am in the first semester of the actual nursing program. The classes are equal to that of a traditional program as far as content is concerned, but you do have the flexibility to complete the work at home. If you haven't started, check Ebay for listings for the first books and study guides for the TEAS. Save some money! |

khanh in Tracy, California said: hi dear! It really wasn't that bad. The study guides are very helpful. You do need to apply for admission to Indiana State first, which requires sending your transcripts. Once you do that you are given a student ID number, and then you can go from there. The nursing department is great, but I've found that it is easier for them to help you if you are an "official" ISU student. I know I keep harping on this, but after you have a student ID number you can also apply for financial aid-loans/grants, etc. For next year, the financial aid form has to be turned in by March. Its online, and not as bad as it used to be. Start with filling out an admission form for ISU-I think it was around $20, then work on getting transcripts to them, and contact the nursing department. They will be glad to send you tons of information about the program via email. Hope this helps! |

this is what really frustrated me and made me delay taking the test by almost a month...so yes you do have to send your transcripts wait till they approve them which takes about 2-3 weeks...and then you have to fill out this paper work and find a proctor which takes a lil while... and everything is explained in that packet that you will have to fill out.... its pretty complicated but youll understand...
