Help! Does anyone know the dates and hours of the next classes starting at Concorde in Arlington or Dallas? I don't want to go down to the school where it will take 3 hours to get the info I need and I couldn't find it on their website. I really want to go to to the Universal Health Services School of Vocational Edudcation in Arlington, Tx. They have a pass rate of 89% or at least they did a couple of years ago. But, their deadline to register for the classes starting in January of 2011 is in like 2 weeks on Septeber 15th. I would love to do it but, I need to brush up bigtime on my math and science. There is no way I'll be ready, in two weeks. I want to do really good on my TEAS test. The next classes after that don't start until September 2011 and that seems like such a loooooooong time away! Anyhoo, I was just wondering what the dead line for registration is for Concorde and when do their next classes begin. Also the hours avail and etc. Does anybody know? I'm just so pumped up to get started! help!

I did all the stuff to get into Kaplan got accepted but decided to wait one more semester to get myself my financially situated to better prepare myself through the year. I took the HESI test passed it and all, but my concern is if i end up going to Kaplan in corpus christi next semester for my lvn and end up finishing it and then a year later decide i wanna get my RN... Will it be possible to go to another college for my RN, without having to do extra stuff?

So in essence my question is really this: If you go to Kaplan college for your LVN and decide later to get your RN.. will you have just wasted time going to Kaplan for your LVN? Or will you be able to actually find colleges out there to use the LVN you got from Kaplan in bridging over to get your RN?

Any information on my question would be appreciated. Thanks, John

John,
When you apply to get into RN school, they are not going to transfer courses from Kaplan or anywhere else. LVN courses are non-transferable, except into another LVN program. They are vocational credits. RN is a degree, be it associate, bachelor, etc. The bridge programs are giving you credit for your license, skills, and experience. That is what cuts the program down to only a year. Your license is going to be the only "transferable" item. The school you get your LVN from, whether it be a private or community college has no bearing on you getting into an RN program. Going to Kaplan or whatever school you can get into to get the LVN is smart right now. When you do apply to get into a bridge, your almost ALWAYS accepted, because they set aside several spots for LVNs, instead of getting wait-listed like the general block RN applicants. So, get that LVN first. Its the smart thing to do. It worked out perfectly for me! But while you are waiting to start the program, look into getting your RN prereqs out of the way. You can even CLEP out of all of them. That way as soon as you finish that LVN, you will be ready to go right into the RN if you choose. Good Luck!

Hello everyone. I need some advice because I am wondering if I should pursue a career as an LVN instead of a medical assistant. I finsihed my medical assist. class in June and I have actively been looking for a job ever since but have had no luck so far and im guessing its my lack of experience and probably the job market isn't so good these days. Now im thinking I want to do LVN and after that go for my RN but i want to know if the job market for LVN is better than MA. I have an interview for a non-medical job tomorrow because i really need the money and i want to get back into school. Can anyone tell me if its easier to get a job as an LVN when your a new grad?

Preferably nursing. The issue I am finding is since I work full time, most schools don't offer evening programs. I was thinking about Kaplan College, or Career Point, but I don't want to get screwed. Can anyone give me any suggestions on these schools or any other good ones in the San Antonio area?

Did you go? I'm signed up for Career Point's November 22nd start date LVN program..

QUOTE who="Cherry in Lake Jackson, Texas"]Oh yeah KIMFOLKS, class typically is around 8-4, sometimes earlier than 4 in your first actual semester after that the days are USUALLY shorter in the last two semesters.

Stick with Career Point. Kaplan has a terrible pass rate at 76% and Career Point is at 92%. I went in July and Kaplan was very disorganized -no dean, teachers were let go, the curriculum was revamped due to low pass rate.(check out bestnursingdegree.com for pass rate on progrm)

THERE IS A NURSING SHORTAGE.....they will not get rid of LVN's.....you will make less money....but you will still have a job.

They are not phasing out L.V.N. Alot of places dont hire nurses beyond the vocational level because they just dont need the advanced nurses. They're too expensive. L.V.N's are still being uses in the United States. RN's have been singing this extintion song for the last 25 years. As long as there are nursing homes, home health care, and clinics, L.V.N's wont be going anywhere any time soon. If anything their demand is about to increase.

I am a student at HCC – Coleman College for Health Sciences, applying to the Licensed Vocational Nurse program. As part of the admission process, I am required to interview a currently practicing LVN.

My admission interview is on Nov. 29, 2010, so I will need to conduct the LVN interview before then.
I am looking for someone local as they will need to sign a verification of the interview.

I have been to several hospitals and clinics and have not been able to find an LVN to interview. Any suggestions?

I am currently attending HCC and have applied to the LVN program. The only courses they require you to take are Anatomy & Physiology, and Nutrition. You do not need to complete these courses before applying, you just have to be enrolled in them at the time you apply.

Most nurses whom I have spoken with from other programs did not get as much experience as I did from that program. I recommend it to everyone.

Nina is there alot of applicants for this program? I cant find any reivews on this school online please give me some adivce

Hi, I graduated from San Jacinto in 2009, and at that time they did not have pre-req's. You did however have to pass a reading and math test. Check into it.

I have been a LVN for 12 years, and some of you might not even want to venture into this field because it requires...COMMON SENSE! H--E--L--L--O! Everyone is asking things like "can I take it online" or "can I go part-time". Are you joking? People, you have the internet; do a little research, please! Go to the BNE (not recognized as the BON anymore--this is the governing board for all nurses--RN and LVN). They can give you a list of fully accredited schools, so you won't waste time or money on something that isn't even accreditted--meaning NO LICENSE AFTER GRADUATION. A LVN course is 8 hr./day, 5 days/ week for a year. If your thinking you can go get your LVN, then wait a year, then go for your RN, then your mistaken. The BNE changed the rules, so please stop asking people's advice and go to the source--the BNE,because when you break it down, they are the ones who control your destiny in nursing!

One more thing, The Zelda L. Allen School of Vocational Nursing in Hallettsville, TX (GOOGLE location) in apart of The Victoria College/University of Houston. Victoria College offers one of the best programs, and Z.L. Allen is one of the oldest programs started in Texas. If you can get there, then this is where you need to go.

NEED HELP AND GUIDENCE FROM ANYONE WITH THE EXPERIENCE AND HAS IT TO OFFER!!!!!!!

thx in advance....

You have to consider that it is Dallas, a higher cost of living. Don't waste your time with MA--most good accreditted schools require 9 months for MA licensure. In 12 months you can go to some schools and get your LVN (RN programs are hard to get into because either they are LVN's continuing on a nursing path or first timers.) Acttually, if you have kids it is easier to get funded with grants and the TX workforce Commission will pay you to go to school too---no lie!... I hope this finds you, even after 11 months after the fact. Good Luck!

I agree w/ most of what Mary said. But here's the thing. Some of these programs don't give you any idea of what to expect. They don't say Nursing isn't the typical "choose your class and choose your instructors" type of situation. I am about to graduate from the LoneStar cy-fair LVN program. There are no choices to make. You sign a blank registration form and they register you for what you need to take to follow their plan. Certain classes are taken at certain time and are assigned to certain instructors. There isn't any choosing involved. You are assigned to a clinical location and given a calendar....and you BE THERE. This program isn't hard as much as it is disciplined. If you can't take direction or be flexible when you need to be you won't do well. It's all about time management and following directions.

The other thing is about the pre-reqs that no one wants to take. Of course you don't want to take them. But I know that I personally would not have done as well as I have without them. I don't remember a thing about biology. I don't know if they will let you do this but I think it's worth a shot. See if you can take the enterence exam. Whether it be Hesi or NET..whatever without taking the pre-reqs...for the experience of taking it. If you don't pull an awesome score...well then I would say you NEED those pre-reqs because without them you won't make it. Nursing is about critical thinking, communication and basic knowledge. you can't do well if you are lacking in any of those areas.
I got lucky....took the A&P 2404, which automatically renewed my a&p 1 and 2 scores and made me eligible to apply for the LVN program (killed two birds w/ one stone) , I only had to take the english and math portion of the HESI ( requirements changed for the upcoming classes)..and did well enough that I had a good score. I got in. I followed directions. Did what I was told. and I'm about to graduate. There is one common denominator among those who aren't in the class now...they did not follow directions. They didn't study what we were told, or they refused to follow procedure and challenged the instructors at every turn....etc. They told us day one. If you do what we tell you to do you WILL graduate. They were right.
So my advice is to just suck it up and take the pre-reqs. They make actual nursing school soo much easier!!!

I guess I should consider myself lucky. The program offered @ Hallettsville via Victoria College is all-inclusice,no pre-requisits and all that go here and go there. We were one singular class with no "intruders" and we all had the same classes at the same time and same assignments. Nursing school is about what nursing is about--time management and dedication, along with sincerity and people skills, etc. It's easy and consider the rewards. Some people go to 4 years colleges in other fields and struggle to find a job, where in nursing jobs will always be plentiful...well, until medicare/medicaid and SSI go bankrupt, then we might be scrammbling!

Hello, I graduated last year with a BS in psychology. At the time when I majored in psychology I did not know how hard it was going to be to peruse a career in psychology, but Ohhhh how I've learned. I had planned to go back for my masters soon after graduating while working as a teacher, but now they have started laying off teachers like crazy and I could go back for two to three years to get my masters and still not be able to get a job doing what I want to do. Sooooo I have decided to peruse a career in the medical filed. I have ruled out becoming a MA since most programs are about 9 to 10 months, and in 12 I can get my LVN. So does anyone know of any LVN programs in Houston that do not require pre req.

I think the MA LVN course's is good, but the field is simply flooded. Now, if you were an MA with an NCT license, there are hundreds of jobs right here in DFW. Even if you just want to use it as a "steppeing stone".
