lolat926 in Mesa, Arizona said: In Salem Oregon, there is a completely free clinic. They offer office visits for all ages, there is a lab and pharmacy there, and you can get an X-Ray too. I volunteered to work there and was accepted, but had to move back here to AZ to stay with family because I could not find a paying job there. There are only a few paid staff there, and all the rest volunteer... the docs , and all. I thought this was a great opportunity to keep up the required nursing hours and offer service to the communiyt as well. ____
I think we should form a group saying enough of this freezed hiring.Enough of hiring Per diem's RN it's very degrading and this is one way of not hiring FT nurses. Enough of the poor working conditions RN's We could formulate a letter and send this to our Senators and Congress.

If you passed the NCLEX exam you will pass the Philippine board but for your info there are so many nurses in Manila doing volunteer work.

Yeah! Good news, I got a job and I am going to BYU to get my BSN :-) Can't believe I was accepted into college. I will have the opportunity to do more clinicals, and will be doing some in the fall in the ICU at the VA. Every semester we have do clinicals in different areas, like advanced assessment and community health nursing. So far I am doing ok, just in two classes though. Work is going ok too. Am working as charge RN in a very nice facility. Never have been in a charge position where I did not pass meds. I do all the IV's and admissions, and supervise staff. And, believe it or not,.... they are not short staffed.

Would like to mention that State Board suggested I go back to school and earn a BSN in nursing which would increase my chances of getting hired in a hospital if this is what I wanted. I have been an RN for 6 years. Would like to know if anyone can comment on that. I told State Board, ( in Oregon) that I would do my best to try school, but at my age I knew it would be a challange. Sincerely,

Hi, I'm a foreign trained registered nurse in the Philippines with one year experience of being an Out-patient and Day surgery nurse. I recently passed my IELTS with good score and I'm scheduled to take my NCLEX exam for license to New Jersey this october, since I have a sister at new jersey. I'm just looking here for anyone/ hospital that can offer to sponsor me to work at New Jersey USA, weather via student visa or working visa(which ever is preferable). Thanks Also need some tips and suggestions on anything related.. |

Dan, Sorry to say that retrogression line is very long and with one year's experience you are not qualified for H1B visa. Hospitals are not sponsoring since there are many Americans out of work. Student visa means you must be enrolled in school. I would suggest you keep you job and get more experience. Good Luck on the NCLex |

Teresa, hospitals do not have to sponsor nurses due to fact there is an over supply of nurses. Since you are asking about sponsoring and are in New York, you must be on a tourist visa or a student visa therefore need to return to your home country. Presently foreign nurses who applied in 2005 are becoming current. Go home get nursing experience, and work on plan b. |

I lost my job as an RN in NY in January when my agency filed for bankruptcy due to the fact that hospitals are closing and there is an oversupply of nurses. I had to move across the country to Oklahoma to find a job after spending 8 months on unemployment. I applied and interviewed for about 15 different positions while receiving unemployment benefits. For every nursing job there are 10 unemployed american nurses. Good Luck. |

I have found a few jobs since my last posting: (finally).. but not the ones I prefer. I prefer hospice or home health, and it appears there is not enough business for these areas of nursing. There were many hospice companys that went out of business when the economy went bad. With all the changes in health care, hospice is not a priority unfortunately.

Lolat926 What is the free medical clinic in Salem, Oregon that RNs can volunteer with??? I will be moving back to the area soon and am looking for a clinic where I can provide RN volunteer work. I also am a 4 year experienced RN unable to find a job for the last 10 months... I am originally from Salem, Oregon and moved to a different area in Oregon in hopes to find a job but still have been unable to find a job. My only hope now is to try and volunteer and pray it will turn into a paid position. I also am now in school for another degree (health care admin). Its extremely frustrating and scary to think I may have done all the work in nursing and now not be able to work as a nurse or take care of my three kids. I dislike telling people I am unable to find a job as they are always so surprised, they bring up "the nursing shortage" every time, then classic to a nurses job I inform the individual of the truth and reality of the situation, the economy has affected the medical field, has affected nurses, the "shortage" if any are with travel companies that offer no benefits and only temporary work, there are also many "on-call" positions however this is inconsistant work, There is a NURSING JOB SHORTAGE r/t the economy, not a nursing shortage! I am a registered nurse, and I can not find a job. |

AndiePhilly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania said: So glad to stumble across this page. I too am an RN with 14 years experience and not able to find a job. I am on unemployment for the first time in my life. I had worked agency for the last 10 years and didn't jump into a staff position fast enough and now there are no jobs. Most hospital websites don't even have RN job openings and the ones that do I apply too and never hear anything. I have excellent references and experience in multiple specialties. I can only imagine how many people apply to the few openings there are. I see that it's not just here in the northeast. Seems to be a widespread problem. I am a US/Canadian citizen and plan to move to Canada soon since there is an ACTUAL shortage there. If you have US RN license, is it possible to take a nursing license test in Canada and work? |
