I am a CNA looking for a flexible job while in school. I see advertisements for temp agencies like Temps Inc and they seem too good to be true. Does anyone know how these jobs work? IE, scheduling, and do you get a location and stay there for a while or are you somewhere different every day?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I've been working as an stna [state tested nursing aid], a cna in Ohio for over a year now. It takes a special insanity to do this. In house aids will sometimes set you up with the hardest patients, clients, or schedules because they know you are making premium income. I have worked with LPN's that were only making pennies more than me.The motto in nursing is "cover your butt" and often you will end up being the one to be blamed but just do your job and do it by the book and word gets around. The up side is that you work when, where and if you want and I ask for 35% more than agencies going rate and get it most of the time.
I wish you the best of luck and would love to hear back from you. elcaminojimmy@yahoo.com

Hi Jim, thanks for your reply. I know what you mean about the special insanity, lol. I have worked float in a large hospital before, and I know what it feels like to be treated as an intruder. The other techs also knew that I made more money than they did, and often dumped a difficult patient load on me. I stayed positive and eventually was trusted in the different areas. I will consider the agency then, it sounds like something I could tolerate :)
