I am an RN and LNHA in IL currently working in Dyer IN but looking to relocate back to the Northern IL area. Where is your facility located. I have been working as a Director of Nursing for the last 3 1/2 years but am looking to get back to functioning as Administrator. I have 19 years experience in healthcare, 13 of that in LTC. |

Hello, my name is Lori, and I am interested in becoming a health care manager. However, before I return to school, I would like to become more familiar with this role. For example, what is a typical day like? How do you all coordinate internal and external services? Thank you for your help, and have a great day. |

I am looking for one or two nursing home experts to assist me with a project called www.elderstep.com. I have very little knowledge in your field but have a great desire to make this site a reality. Please contact me if you are interested in participating. In a nutshell we are creating a database of every facility in North America and the ability for loved ones, residents, employees, and ex employees to write reviews and comments about the facility. I need your help in making the site relevant to administrators and to the general public. Thank you, JP

JP, If I can give you a suggestion. Do not go down that road. Administrators will hate you. They just received the government's five star rating and most of the facilities did not get a good rating. With the State, Federal, Local governments, patients, their family and local dog catchers they already have enough oversite. JWD |

JP, TravelAdvisor seems to be a very informative travel website. It is very well done. If you want to help the Nursing Home Field, work on educating nurses. There is a major shortage of qualified nurses. Because of DRGs (reimbursement for patient care, so many days per patient diagnosis), patients are being discharged from hospitals before they are ready. When Nursing Homes receive these patients they are still very sick. A nursing home bed is much cheaper than a hospital bed. In addition, most nursing home facilities utilize Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who need to gain work esperience before they are good at picking up the suttle diagnostic changes in patients. The LPNs are so bogged down with passing medication they do not have time to observe their patients. There are not enough Register Nurses in the field of Long Term Care. This is a major problem for someone to work on. Nursing home employeers do not set money or time aside to educate their nursing staff. Back at you later. JWD |

Amjad, You should be looking at the quality of care being rendered. In your experience: look back at the number of patients that had to be returned to the Emergency Room for simple care that could have been provided at the Nursing Care Facility. Good nurses in rehabilitation centers are worth there weight in gold. It is not always a cheaper employee who pushes medications that provides a profit for the facility. JWD |

I am interested in obtaining a Nursing Home Administrator's In-Training position. I am willing to satisfy other State NHA requirements if and when necessary. I am a Registered nurse with a MHA, MSN, BSN. I am currently working in an acute care hospital and have had three years there on their Skilled Nursing Unit, plus I have had two years long-term care experience. |
