Get the NAB study guide. It's very good. Also James Allen has excellent text book and study guide too.

Hey Irene,
Good Day. I am a recent graduate with my MPA in Healthcare/Gerontology and I am still looking to secure an internship position in the AIT program in the NY area with an established Nursing Home Administrator/Nursing Home.

It appears that you are currently doing your training,so do you have any suggestion(s) or guidance on how to secure this internship?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Kevin
I never did an AIT as I had my experience accepted instead.
Good luck!

Hey Irene,

Are you currently employed in the field? If so,can you suggest any possible avenue(s)for me to get this training completed via any contacts that you may have acquired in this arena. Thank you in advance.

I am almost done with my AIT in NY. I will probably take the exam in October or November time. I also just bought the NAB book and am thinking about taking a national exam review course, but not sure if i will.
Kevin I would suggest approaching nursing facilities, however be aware sicne the majority of them will try to take you for a ride since they know u need to do ur ait they might get u to work for free or just about free.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the info. By the way, is it possible to recommend me to your administrator at the facility where you are undergoing your AIT? Please let me know if this is possible.

Thank you in advance.

Kevin

P.S. - Is your AIT five days a week (Mon - Fri @ (9A to 5P)and paid?

Honestly I know that the administrator is not going to want to have an additional ait after I am finished. However once I offically finish I will inquire 100%. Yes it is 5 days a week and paid. I would strongly suggest contacting the NYS doh, and ask for a list of possible preceptors in your area.

That raises a good question. How does anyone get licensed when the state licensing process requires you to work for nothing in order to get your license. How many people don't reach their goal because they can't afford not to work for 6 months?

You are correct, but there are facilites that are looking for assitant administrators which will count towards your license.

Yes, I actually would be interested in pursuing this option but I also think that the AIT position would be really valuable as I have no experience in the field, however, I would be willing to do what it takes to make it in this field and be the best assistant administrator possible.

Hi Kevin,
I did my 6 months trainig unpaid and in the worst condition because they do take you on a ride . . . I mean literally . . . and it is the hardest thing to get an internship.
