California doesn't offer straight license reciprocity, but it will allow an administrator to work under a provisional license. This gives you the opportunity to work for up to a year, during which time you must take and pass the California NHA exam.

There are a number of good on-line sources for information about California NHA licensure, as well as first class exam-prep resources. Here are a few to start with:

• Nursing Home Administrator Guide Book
www.qchf.org/NHA0906online.pdf
This was an attempt to compile all the relevant background and application resources into one document. Among the gems you can find in this booklet are lists of the materials the state exam are based on, as well as web sites from which they can be downloaded.

• California Nursing Home Administrator Program Web Site
ww2.cdph.ca.gov/pubsforms/forms/Pages/NursingHomeAdministrator.aspx
This is the best source for the current versions of state forms and data sheets.

• California Association of Health Facilities/Quality Care www.qchf.org/nursinghomeadm.php
Health Foundation NHAP Resource Page
This is a resource page from the state nursing home industry association.

• AIT Exam Prep
www.aitexamprep.com/
This is a consulting business that offers exam prep materials, educational resources and exam review sessions.

My advice is to download a copy of Title 22, chapters 2.5 through 4. You will want to study this material indepth for the state exam. You will need to know the differences between ICF and SNF for staffing, documentation requirements, etc. There will be some OBRA questions on the exam also. I found the test to be fairly straight forward. If you have any questions email me and I will help any way that I can. Good Luck
