Did you find the exam extremely hard? Any suggestions for passing the test? I have attempted it 4 times and failed by NARROW margins (1 to 2 points). I have extreme test anxiety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

I took it a couple months back and there were numerous people from Miami taking this seminar and they stated that this was the only class offered in South Florida. Well worth the drive, 2 day class was very helpful in getting me through both exams on the first try. However, this class alone will not get you through both the Fed and State NHA exams, despite what they tell you during the seminar. Study hard is my only advice and good luck |

I have passed the State exam. My problem is with the NAB. I have the NAB study guide; my masters in gerontology with emphasis in long term care. I plan to take Dr. James Allen's review course online. I didn't know if you had done something in particular to study that I haven't tried. It's been about 9 months since I last took the exam. I have just begun to think about taking it again and am looking for any pointers any one can give me. Thanks for your reply. |

It was reported that there are numerous versions of the test which differ greatly one from the other and I suppose it is the luck of the draw on which one you get. I am from Kansas and I completed the AIT which was really non-existant. I have been a DON for years and not certain if that will help or hurt. I am really wondering if I should take those fake tests on the NAB site or not - Looking for someone to enlighten me.... Dianne Get the NAB Study Guide it is very helpful! |

Thank you for the advice. You reinforce what I have been thinking about Dr. James Allen. No the test is not easy and I appreciate the offer to help. I may take you up on that offer. I am in the process of changing jobs to something less stressful so I can devote more time to study and will be better prepared to study in about a month. And of course you do not have to worry about me giving you any competition. :} |

Hi, Does anyone know how to get their foot in the door of a company to become nursing home admininstrator or exec. dir? I have a Bachelor's degree in business and gerontology. Worked as business office manager for company with promises that I would be promoted. After being with company for 18 months, filling in as a caregiver on many occasions due to being short-staffed - company then has the gumption to tell me despite my education and working my tail off for them that ther were no guarantees of a position and that I would still have to do 1 year training program! Had 4 bosses in 18 months so that says a lot about the company. I know what boards need to be taken and what AIT programs are but it seems awfully hard to get one's foot in the door. I'm willing to relocate as well. On another note I was going to leave former company in February, company suddenly seems to realize how wonderful I was and promised training to become Exec Dir. 6 months later found myself with no training, still working countless hours as caregiver and gave up. Best decision I ever made..Any advice appreciated as love working with the elderly.. |

troy in Chicago, Illinois said: am taking the NAB exam 2 weeks from now any tips? Hi Troy, I would assume that you have the NAB study guide. It is one of the best resources available to you. if you enjoy reading there is another good book by James Allen that will tell you more than you will ever want to know about the nursing home that i also studied. www.amazon.com/Nursing-Home-Administration-James-Allen/dp/0826153941/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213245615&sr=1-1

Troy, I took that same course with the lovely Dr. Cirn, I can honestly say that it was very boring, but every question he takes directly from the NAB test. The wording may be different but they are all taken from the test. I would just read the NH code, and then answer the question that corresponded to what I had just read in the code. It's not an easy test (the federal is much harder IMO), but I passed after my second attempt. I felt that there was no hard part of the test, it was all difficult. Just study for at least a few months every day, and when you know the material front to back you'll be ready. The state exam is not that bad, just memorize the IL NH code 300. All of it.... |

JB...QUESTION BUT DR.CIRN QUESTIONNAIRE HELPED U AT ALL. FOR BOTH NAB AND THE STATE. EXAM? |
|
JB in Joliet, Illinois 48 months ago |
More so for the state exam, but every thing that is covered on both exams is covered in the binders he gives you. He still gives you three right? One is the Illinois code 300, one is the material covered by the federal exam, and the other is all questions. Is that right? |

To be quite honest it depends on what version of the test you get. some seem harder than others from my understanding, i have only taken it once, i was blessed enough to pass it on first try. It is true that you will get a judgment but it is only a prelem judgment, the NAB is scaled based on everyone who has taken it in your group. management and leadership is a big deal, since that is your everyday job. if you look in the back of the NAB study guide it will tell you how many questions will be on it. I recommend Allens book only because it is good and schools use it to teach NHA. I dont know if i told you this but i would arrive at least an hr early to relax and reread over the study guide so it is fresh. anything elses let me know. |

I took both the NAB and Florida Exam for NHA and passed on both on my first try. In addition I have Master of Science in Health/Specialization in Geriatric Management. I did attend the seminar is Tampa, can not remember the name of the company but they put together some good literature on the NAB and Florida Exam. I studied those materials and found it very helpful for the FL exam. The NAM is much harder and requires more studying. I bought the books by James Allen and the surveyor guide is pretty good. The NAM require a great deal of practical knowledge. My best advice is to answer the questions without reading too much into them. Read the question, ask yourself exactly what are the asking based on the material provided in the question only, not what you think they are asking. Go back over your answers backwards till you get to number one. Once I was done, the computer screen stated passed. This is what helped me, it may be different for you. Study time for state reg, 1 month, NAM 3 months including class. Good Luck everyone. |

I am looking to take the NAB. In Georgia there is no state exam to be taken. I believe that you have to apply to a board to be eligible to take the national exam. If this is true does anyone know the qualifications that the board will be considering. Any information would be greatly appreciated. |

I have extreme test anxiety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cathy if you are interested I am a licensed nursing home administrator in Florida and I offer an online course to help individuals like yourself pass the national exam. I have gotten 34 people licensed so far and I also offer the FL state exam review course. There are a lot of people who do well on standardized exams and but individuals with test anxiety can have a harder time passing the national exam. After four tries you may have mossed miissed passing by 1 or 2 points but the trick with the national exam is that you have to demonstrate competence in each section or domain and your score is weighted across all domains and if you score 100% in 4 domains and 75% in 1 domain you will not pass the exam. There may be 2 or 3 domains that you have not mastered and that would be important to know and NAB can provide you report detailing how sored in each domain. If you are interested you can check out my website at www.examprofessional.com. I offer one on one tutoring and can figure out what problems you are having. The James Allen course also a good resource for you as well. Any way, I wish you the best. But you know there no course that can guarantee that you will pass the exam. I admire that you have not given in getting your license. I know it can be frustrating and expensive to continually retest Good luck |

I am a licensed nursing home administrator and I offer an online course for the national exam that comprehensively covers the entire content of the exam and I have over 2000 test questions to prepare you to pass the acutal exam. You will work under my supervision and can email me or call me with any questions. You can enroll at any time and I will standy by you and work with you until you the pass the exam. It takes between 5-8 weeks to finish all of my modules, but you work at your own pace. I track your progress and ensure you keep to your schedule. I not only want you to pass the exam, but I want you to know the concepts and material in the national exam so when you do get licensed you know what to do when you get your first building. It is impossible to be over qualified to be a nursing home administrator. You learn 17 new things each day and you need to know your "stuff" after you are licensed to succeed. IOn my opinion, the national exam is not somethng you just take and get over with, it is actually the last chance you have to get down the fundamentals that you need to know to succeed once you the CEO position of a multi-million dollar conmpany which is what a nursing home is. My course is $599 and you the entire content of the national exam and a tutor to guide you through it. The national exam is a standardized exam and my course is effective in all 50 states. You can enroll at my website www.examprofessional.com I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do. |

I am taking the NAB in two weeks. How many questions are on the test and can you use a calculator or do you do all the ratios in you head.? Thanks |
|
Patricia in Daphne, Alabama 47 months ago |
The test consists of 165 questions with only 150 being used as test questions and the other 15 are testing for use on later tests. No calculators are provided and I did not need one. The problems were basic in nature and you could do them on the scratch pads that the facility provides. |
|
stan in West Palm Beach, Florida 47 months ago |
there is a 150 questions on the exam. you have 3 hours or roughly 2 minutes to answer each question. You cannot take a calculator into the exam but should be able to solve the questions in your. You only have 2 minutes so if you are spending a lot of time an question you need to move on or work the question backwards. |

Cathy in Monroe, Louisiana 47 months ago |

You have 4 options. One is the right answer. You do not have time to do lengthly calculations. If you look at the question and then the four options, you will see the questions are designed to be solved with very little computation. Try figuring the problems out in your head First. Very often the answers are approximations. When you study the math problems you'll see what I mean. Just plug in each of the four possible answers into equation and you'll find the answer. |
