Please let me remind those of you who have taken the examination that you sign a confidentiality agreement that prohibits you from discussing/disclosing any information about the examination that you took. My advice to those of you planning to take the exam is that the only way to assure success on the exam is to study.

Good Luck!

I have my NHA license in Ohio and Michigan. Each one I took a one day class to prep me for the State test and they were both entertaining and I would recommend them to anyone as essential to pass the state test. Now I am needing to take the State test for Arkansas and I have not been able to find any information on similar classes in Arkansas. Anyone know of one or more in Arkansas???

Hello - I have the most current (5th edition) of the NAB study guide that is currently listed on the NAB website for $130. It has no writing in it, and I have highlighted all of the critical material. I am willing to sell it for $80. I also have a brand new 150-question practice exam that I have not written in either. The practice test was a great help getting familiar with the way questions are worded. I would sell the practice exam for $25. Please email if interested. robk1 (at) ptd (dot) net

For all of those who are not aware....the government has an AIC training program for those who are currently graduating or about to graduate with the following: MBA, MPH, MHA. Go to usajobs.gov and type in Health System Specialist for the search. Your degree has to be from an accredited institution and certified by CECH and the like. The range of pay is $46K to $57 and then after the year you have your pic of jobs. I know what I am talking about..I work for the government, I am a military spouse, and I represent military spouses at each base we are stationed. All you have to do to qualify to apply is meet the degree requirements and be a US citizen. The announcements are ongoing. Applying for a govie job is nervewracking with the rewards are endless. Good luck!!

I would log onto the NAB website www.nabweb.org and click on the link that says future administrators. Locate the contact person for your State and give them a call...that would be your best resource.

And of course you do not have to worry about me giving you any competition. :}

Indiana HFA in Fishers, Indiana said: I took the exam a few months ago and failed the first time. took about 3 weeks to study and took it again.

This is what I studied:

1. Read JUST Section I of the "Watermelon" book aka The Long Term Care Survey. No need to study any more of whats in that book.
2. Read the Principles of Health Care Administration. This is basically the guide for the test.
3. The NAB study guide is ok, but I wouldn't spend much time on it. It skips over a lot of detailed material you will need to know for the test. This is why I failed the first time. Memorize all of the practice questions though. Some of them were on the test I took, verbatum.
4. What helped me the most was the book called "Programmed Manuel for Nursing Home Admistrator Examinees" 13th edition. A compilation of about 1500 practice questions that covers each section. I memorized this entire book, and so many questions from this was on the test.

I'm pretty sure I took the same test both times.

It seems like a lot of material but if you dedicate to memorizing this stuff you will pass. I did the second time.

For those who are taking the test in Michigan, I would recommend you take the two day class with your Michigan Health Care Association. I had to take the Michigan test and only went through the one day class in Levonia and did just fine. The next day was dedicated to the National test and I already was licensed in Ohio so I did not stay for the second day. It was relatively inexpensive and Kevin covered everything and he kept it a fun day. Went back to Ohio and took the test the next week.

Again this morning I have found a comment posted on this forum (which I have deleted) that an exam candidate posted relative to a question on the exam. This is a serious violation of the confidentiality agreement that each candidate signs when you register for the exam and when you take the exam at a Prometric Testing Center. We will take action against this candidate for violation of this agreement and I want to warn anyone on this forum who engages in a discussion about the NAB exam that there are serious consequences for exam security violation that could suspension of your eligibility to take the exam and practice as well as monetary penalties and legal actions.

Please reframe from discussion of the actual exam or exam questions.

Thank you,

I had one week to prepare and pass both the Ohio exam and the national exam. I had failed the exams before and I invested in Stan's course at examprofessional.com and I am so glad I did. Stan spent countless hours studying with me and he drilled the basics into me about what I needed to know to pass the exams, and to manage all aspects of a SNF. Stan has the ability to translate abstract concepts into plain language, and had some unbelievable techniques to learn and memorize information and concepts. His teaching methods are very effective and very individualized. He spent a lot of time with lme earning the way I process and retrieve information and taught me things about myself I never realized. Whether this is the first time you are attempting the exams or have failed the exams previously, investing in Stan's program is a no brainer. I passed both my exams. Thanks Stan, you are truly a life saver.

Msdarogers in St. Louis, Missouri said: I took the state exam for Missouri and the federal exam. Missouri has a class that teaches you what to study for here. It was so helpful because the state has so many regs and without that class, there was no way I could have known what to study for. See if your state has the same.

Also, I took Townsend's two-day seminar on the Federal exam. His book came along with the class and it gives a lot of info on the five domains of practice. He also had sample exams of 150 questions (he had 5 sets of 150 questions). This was so helpful because it gave me an idea of what to expect. I also purchased NAB's book ($130) because a collegue of mines who is also licensed told me that was the best book he's seen that would be helpful. I did notice that some of the questions in the NAB book was on my test. The difference is that I waited until I was fully aware of the content before I scheduled the exam.

The best advice I was given was to study one at a time. If you are required to take a state exam, study for that one only, take it, and then move on to the federal. Studying both at the same time can be confusing. Hope this helps!

Hi can I please request if you could sent some study material to me via email. chinkyajay@yahoo.com
