I took the NAB practice test at nabpracticemocknationalexam.com/ this helped me. I seen questions on this test that where on the real exam. Hope this helps.

When you go to the prometric.com website for info re. the NAB exam, there is a like to "Test Drive". I took it at a test center on Long Island, NY. It is not offered at every test center, but according to the website, it is offered at a good number of test centers across the US and they have a link to find where.
It cost $30, and was well worth it to me. See if this works-->copy and paste: www.prometric.com/TestDrive/default.htm
It included the whole check in process (photo, fingerprint....)so that the day of the real test I just had to show ID.

For a link to a practice test ($75...there is an option for 2) go to www.nabweb.org and there is a link to information about the practice exam. After the exam, they provide results in terms of Pass/Fail and how you scored in the various domains...Res Care/Qol; HR; Finance; Phy. Enviorn; Leadership & Mgt. Good doagnostic for strenths and weaknesses.

Test taking tips:
Read every single word of the question and every single word of the possible answers.
When you do not know the answer at all, take a deep breath, and look again. Choose and answer and "mark" it so you can return to it later. You may keep the answer or see it in a whole new light. Schedule the test when you are well rested. I took it on a Sunday so I could make up for the Mon-Fri sleep deficit on Sat. Consider what ytou eed to do ahead of time to give you the best advantage on Test Day! Good luck.

It's easy I took it last year. I went to Lesley Powell's class in Winnetka. The material she give us helps a lot! You basically just need to study the Title 22 and DO NOT take the test if you are not ready. It study for a month everyday then took the test in LA.

Have you done your AIT program? If so, where because I am having a hard time finding a preceptor. I also worry if there are really any jobs out there for NHA's

Are you working in a SNF right now? It helps if you are. I am currently working in a SNF and my preceptor is my administrator. I am just waiting to pass the NAB and have my license. My administrator is retiring he is just waiting for me to get my license. You should be able to get a job once you are license in CA.

I am licensed in Texas but recently moved to the central coast with my family. I enjoy my freedom and would only be interested in interim positions but haven't really explored the market yet.

Getting the job is the whole problem.I dont see any positions out there in a SNF for healthcare admins.What position were you holding before starting your AIT? Do I need to come in at a position like CNA or medical biller/coder and work my way up? I am so confused. Please help me out. Would your preceptor be willing to train others as well (he doesn't even have to pay me I just really need the training!)

Not necessarily you need to be a cna or ..., but any of the above will help you.
But working in snf b4 getting your license will help you a lot. I started as medical record assistant and now I am in AIT program. But when I study it helps me alot.

I took the test and passed and now I have a lot of study materials available for sale.

Practice Tests - regularly $75 a piece (per 150 questions set).
Study Guides - regularly $125-135.

The stuff is never cheap but you can save a few bucks by going second hand! Shoot a reply on here with your email and I'll be in touch!

You don't really have to spend a ton of money if you look around. Here's what I'd suggest having....

1. The Guidance to Surveyors - the LTC survey book
2. The NAB Study Guide - could probably find for 30-40 bucks online
3. If you have some cash buy The Principles of Healthcare Administration (Joseph Townsend). It's $130 on the NAB website but you may be able to snag one cheaper elsewhere.

That's about all you'd need to be prepared for the test.
