*1. NAB Exam Study Guide
*2. Nursing Home Administration (James E. Allen)
3. Principles of Nursing Home Administration (Townsend)
4. Nursing Home Federal Requirements
*5. The Licensing Exam Review Guide in Nursing Home Administration
*6. A whole lot of practice exams from class (A, B, D, E, 7, 8, 9, Math Exam and NAB sample questions)
7. The Long Term Care Survey Guide (red binder)

I am studying for the NAB now, I've been looking in advance to see what is out there. Im kind of afraid that once I get my license there won't be anything available or I won't have the required experience to get a position. I've been seaching on-line pretty much: Career Builder, Indeed, Hot Jobs etc. I work full time now at a Hosptital in town but i've been thinking about voulenteering at one of the local nursing facilities close to home to gain some NHA experience.

If anyone is interested there is a job in Niles, MI. It is on the Michigan Indiana border, very small in the middle of nowhere. But there willing to take someone without experience freshly Licensed. I live in MI I have 3 semesters until I graduate with my Bachelors. That is why I am putting it out there. If your willing to go there great experience getter for better later.

Wow, Thanks for the encouragement. I needed that. I still have about 5 mths before I take the test.

1 - NAB Study Guide
2 - Watermelon Book (Guidance to Surveyors)
Optional - Townsend's "Principles of Health Care Administration"

Seeing as how administrator's are generalists, the test covers a lot of different areas. As an administrator you will have daily involvement in nursing, social service, activities, dietary, environmental and much more!

Study all of the material and then test yourself to see where you need to focus. This isn't the type of test where you need to memorize terminology and processes. It's about taking very specific federal regulations and making them applicable to real life situations.

You've heard it a million times but for a test like this it's very important....get plenty of rest before the test! Go into the test calm. Folks, the pass rate for this test is pretty high. It's abve 80% if I remember correctly. Good luck to you all!

Hey everyone! I passed my boards in September thanks in part to a great online test that was offered by Caregiver Connections. This test is being offered again and I would encourage ALL of you to take this exam. Their info can be found on ebay by searching NAB practice exam. I took the NAB online exam and found it was not as good...and waaaay more expensive also. This test covers all 5 domains and regs extremely well. They also provided me with an email that allowed me to ask them questions on the exams and how to study...good luck to all of you!!!!!!

Thank you! The best book I found was The Townsend Book...I tried to read the Allen one but it was too complicated...lol. I took the NAB exams on their site and the Caregiver one...read read read....do the exams and you should be fine!

Hello Dan, I have a few questions for you. How are you studing for the test? Do you have the practices exams? I have a few if you need them I can email them to you. How is the test setup? My email address is mcfulton68@yahoo.com. Do you have a study partner? I am studing for the test now and it is hard. I can help you. I did here if you do not pass the first two times you have to take the 7 week course. I don't know if this is correct or not.

I just took it a few weeks ago and here are my suggestions for you. PRACTICE TESTS! They help so much. I purchased two books and they helped tremendously and some of the questions on the NAB were taken from these sample books If you want to purchase one, let me know. marie.ann63@yahoo.com
