Sorry but I really don't think it's necessary to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on theses "crash courses" being offered in many places. Here's my suggestions for passing this test. 1. Study the Guidance to Surveyors - this has all of the specifics you're going to need to know on the test! 2. Study the NAB Study Guide - this little baby has a ton of information and can help you understand the methodologies and it will help you master the analytical questions. 3. Buy the Principles of Healthcare Administration (Joseph Townsend) - this book was the lifesaver! It's the perfect companion to the NAB study guide. The book provide the details that the study guide lacks. 4. STUDY WELL IN ADVANCE OF YOUR TEST! I read the stuff until it was second nature! I have tons of materials for sale. Please reply on here and we can work something out. I have study guides and a plethora of CURRENT practice tests (these were lifesavers too!!). Good luck testing!! |

I took the NAB exam today for the second time and passed. I agree with The Dude in Warren, Indiana. I found the Nursing Home Federal Requirements, Guidelines to Surveyors and Survey Protocols by James Allen the most helpful of all the study materials. It is not really aimed at the future administrators but for surveyors. The regs are the same ones but here there are explanations of what and why, really good at drilling the important points. To all who passed the first time; my hat is of to you!! To those who are still trying don't give up, our parents and grandparents need us making sure that things are done right...GOOD LUCK!! |

Can you email the formula how to solve the enclosed problem questions? your facility has 120 beds. During June you gave the following days of care: 160 Medicare, 800 private pay and 1920 medicaid. What was your percent occupancy rate? During the year a facility provided 30,000 days of resident care. The operational cost was $3,240,000 and the reimbursement rate of $115 per day. What was the profit per resident day? |
|
Dude in Warren, Indiana 37 months ago |
rsquared..... #1 - assuming the month has 31 days you have the potential for 3720 potential resident days (beds x days in month). Then you add up all your days which equals 2880 total days. Divide this number by the 3720 we calculated above and you'll come up with your occupancy rate of 77%. #2 - multiply the resident care days by the reimbursement $115) this gives you 3,450,000. Subtract your operating costs of $3,240,000 and you're left with $210,000. Divide this by your total resident days and you'll have your profit of $7. |

Can someone send me some NAB exam material, and since I'm in Indiana, is the exam the same all over or diff. in every state? |
|
rsquared in Hollywood, Florida 37 months ago |
Dude can you answer this one for me as well? Restful Acres is licensed for 135 beds and has an occupancy of 120 residents. In a 30 day month, $11,700 is spent on food. What is the per resident day cost for raw food? I got $3.90 but it's incorrect based on answer key. Answer key says $3.25. Thanks |
|
rsquared in Hollywood, Florida 37 months ago |
The math section is my weakest area because i cannot remember the formulas. Here is another question. Can you solve this one for me or tell me how to solve it? If a facility has 90 residents and it requires preparation time of 12 labor minutes per meal how many labor hours are required per week? |

I am selling my James E. Allen book entitled "Nursing Home Administration 4th ed." ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WB4G8EN4L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA240_SH20_OU01_.jpg I no longer need it!! It helped me tremendously and after reading everyone's concerns trying to find good study material, I figured it may help someone else. It is on the recommended list of study materials for the NAB if you still need to take this exam. This is one of the books I used to study from. It is an expensive book! I paid over $150 for it. It is in excellent condition! I don't abuse my books; there's no torn pages and the cover looks brand new as I kept a cover on it during studying. I don't want to put it on ebay as you are my network of friends in health care. Why not help someone else who is trying to get their license, right? This a closed-auction via email (i.e. If you're interested, send me an email letting me know how much you will pay for the book). I will be taking closed bids through Wednesday, May 20th. No minimum bid, but the highest bidder wins! I accept paypal and check which can be worked out via email. I will mail the same day payment is received. I have a 100% feedback rating on ebay (theupsgirl), so there's no worry. I just no longer need this book and know someone else does. I will also pay for the shipping via media mail. I will ship the same day that payment is received. If interested, please send email to thejadedbabygirl@yahoo.com with a subject of NAB BOOK. I will send a response to all emails on the 20th. If you have any questions, please let me know.

needhelp! in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania said: I have taken the NHA (federal) twice and cannot seem to pass. Some questions from the first test were on there and it was hard to decipher if I should go with the original answer I chose the first time. Please help me figure out where I need my focus to be. I already have the NAB study guide and some practice tests. Can you offer any additional assistance or advice?? Thanks Hi! There are many reasons why people pass and also why they don't pass. Anxiety is part of it. Utilize James Allen's books as he helped write the test. Also, keep taking practice exams over and over again until you get every question correct. DMACC in Ankeny, Iowa has a practice course you can take online anywhere in the country that you can take for 70 dollars which has a lot of info on it. Again, utilize James Allen's publications as well as practice exams! |

I just took the NAB 2 weeks ago and passed. It was really tricky if you already work in healthcare. We all know we do things alittle bit different that what the books say. The 2 study exams offered by the NAB site and the surveyors guide was really helpful, oh and and the NAB study guide was great, too. |

I had only 3 math questions on my exam and they we very simple. One example was If a nurse aide works 40 hours at 7.00 per hour and she is paid time and 1/2 for the 10 overtime hours she worked. What was her gross income. |

I am planning to take the NAB exam in June in Tampa. I have the Examination Study Guide and the online supplemental study materials. $125.00 is pretty steep for two NAB practice exams (on the website) but its worth it if I pass the first time around. Can anyone offer any other practice forms that are circulating out there? It would be much appreciated!! |
