CC, girl who started post in Waltham, Massachusetts said: I am waiting on my test results. I took the stupid test in early July and have to wait until the 24th to find out if I passed.
I was kinda upset when I took the test and realized all the developmental levels I had memorized, MET levels and stupid levels of this and that I got from the Rita book was not at all on the test.I think I got lost in that book and just started memorizing way too much information.
I honestly think the best way to study is to actually read our text books. All of the NBCOT questions come from OT books such as the Case Smith peds books and the trombly phys dys book.
I guess the point of this post is just to say, don't study details. I got really carried away. It is best just to study general knowledge and you have a better way of making a decision if you have a general idea. Just my tip before you go into the exam.

THNKS FOR THE TIPS HOW DID YOU DO???? DID YOU PASS ????

What was your study strategy last time? And what would you do different now?
Was the exam focused on a specific area or did it cover several areas?
Im studying for my exam as well so if you want to communicate over messenger just email me at the-8th-wonder@hotmail.com
I do have skype but have no idea how to use it.
Google messenger or MSN would probably be good too.

can someone give me a definition for client centered goal or therapy. Thanks

'Client centred' goal/therapy basically means that you collaborate with your client to set a goal and proceed with therapy. I.e treat them like a partner in therapy, find out what they percieve their strenghts & limitations to be, and what they would like to work on. Build a relationship and base your therapy off of your interactions with client. Make sense?

It helped me... I took the practice exam and all of the content exams.... it is a good study tool just to confirm what you already know... the practice exam will not tell you which ones you got wrong... the content exams tell you which ones are wrong and why!

Congratulations!!
I failed my first time as well and will be retaking it in a month. Did you study alot more the 2nd time or was it just a diff study strategy? Im very confused and scared. I did quite a few practice tests the 1st time around, but I think I may have not read the questions correctly on the exam. Do you have any other suggestions?

To those of you who are being discouraging and negative about our newly chosen careers as OT's - this forum is about our efforts to pass the NBCOT exam. Pick another forum to try to hurt people, this one is about ENCOURAGING each other. Take your negativity elsewhere!!!!

But really what is wrong with someone speaking out for what they feel? Why should comments that express something that makes you uncomfortable but is true to what I have experienced be banned? I can see policing for obsenities or for rude comments to others but when someone speaks out against somthing that they believe is wrong with this profession I do not believe it should be disallowed.

Well thats the thing. Your "speaking out" against OTs calling the profession criminal, unethical, and a useless waste of time and life. Weather or not you believe that to be true, there are a lot of actual OTs and OT students on this forum who are NOT criminal or unethical. They provide a service that, like all services, work for some people and don't work for others (you). When you claim that something is useless to everyone and encourage people to stay away from OT when there are many people (including myself) who actually EXPERIENCED being helped by an OT, or saw a lot of measurable progress in OT patients from OT services it actually is rude and obscene for you to say these totalitarian comments that only hold "factual basis" within YOUR life. You claim that many people feel the same way you do, but they are not here agreeing with you. Yes, there are either other people or you under a different name who log on just to emphatically agree with you and then are never seen here again, but most of the people here are obviously insulted by your comments. The purpose of a forum is to stick to the topic at hand. Unlike a street corner where you can hold up picket signs and yell out whatever you want, you should always only post information that pertains to the topic heading and that heading only. The forum title is Occupational Therapist so yes you can start a new discussion called "OT sucks" and post what you want there but don't go around posting unrelated content to either distract everyone else from answering a persons question OR staying on subject!

chris s c in Sacramento, California said: Although your voice IS as important as everyone else, you need to allow others to express their freedom of speech just like you are. When you dominate other discussions with the unrelated things you have to say, you keep them from getting the information they need. You promote free speech like its being taken away from you! But all your doing is stopping free speech from everyone else!

Whenever you bring rude unrelated comment to a discussion, the original question stops being answered and while that may be your goal, it is a disservice to the original discussion leader. OBVIOUSLY, if you comments keep getting removed they are not adhering to the forum rules.
^^^^ so none of this should have needed to be said. But I guess I had to waste that time because you don't get while indeed keeps removing the "free speech" comments. If they were so liberating and helpful to people why would they be removed?

Amen to that! As for this particular discussion, congrats to all who have passed their NBCOT, and best wishes to those who are giving it another go round! Never give up on your accomplishments!

There's nothing wrong with speaking out about how you feel - the problem comes in HOW and WHERE it's done. This forum is about passing the exam. If someone wants to address their unhappiness with the profession, go to a site where people want to talk about that.

There is no reason to discourage those of us trying to start a new career - and I'm sure we are all very excited and hopeful about it. Not to mention all the blood, sweat and tears we just put into our educations. Let us decide for ourselves once we are working if it's a poor career choice or not.

Besides, isn't there enough negativity in this world???!!!! It's unkind and thoughtless to voice negative comments in this particular forum.
