What type of schooling is needed to become an optician? Any suggestions as to the best schools?

I am not sure of the requirements in Michigan, to become an optician. Approximately 21 states require licensure, and only a few require education. Most Opticians learn on the job, however there is a great program that is available online through Hillsborough Community College in Tampa FL. The program prepares opticians for the ABO exam as well as the NCLE exam (national exams). It also covers topics specific to FL licensure (which is very strict). Bill Underwood is the program coordinator and he could answer some of the other questions you may have.
