I'm considering applying to Optometry, is it growing or declining in WA state/the US

So I am a biology major, I was shooting for a doctorate in physical therapy, but I really would like to be an optometrist instead, I've always been interested in the field.
I would like to know if I should go into the optometry field, and if it would be worth it.
I'm just wondering if it would be worth my while to try to get into an optometry school, I don't want to go into it if there are no jobs left, or if I won't be able to get a job when I get out.
I currently live in Wa state, and I've read that new optometrist in Cali aren't doing so well, so I'm hoping to hear feedback from people in the United States, and new to the profession if it's worth it, and if your happy.
I hope someone could help me out with this!
