If you interview for a dental position and you have a flawed smile, does that substantially lower your chances of getting the job? (i.e. crossbite, crowding, etc.) I'm asking more on the lines of appearance than dental hygiene.

Yes it can. For instance i am interviewing to be a orthodontic assistant ( at the orthodontist i go to) and she pulled my chart and made sure i was getting my braces off before i could work there. i dont really think thats right but i guess thats what paitents are looking at is your teeth so they expect them to be perfect.

Yes it can, but don't feel discouraged. Make sure you smile alot and have good eye contact and that you are very confident and have good people skills and most likely the doctor that hires you will fix your smile complimentary it always happens!

That is interesting that they wanted your braces of before you start working there. Often, they like their employees to have braces (if needed) to relate to the patients.

Is becoming an Orthodontic Assistant a good job, and pay wise too?

no you do not have to have perfect teeth. At the last ortho i worked at most of the assistants had braces, and one of them even had crooked teeth on the bottom.
