1. gentle, protective of patients lips and cheeks; support the teeth from behind. patients appreciate a gentle assistant.
2. get braces. experience what the patient does.
3. person-ability. relate to your patients and listen to them.

I think everyone's comments are very good! I would also like to add ATTITUDE to the list! It won't matter how fast you are or how much you know if your attitude sucks!

My boss told my dentist that I am the best assistant he has ever had and that is saying a lot...he has been in practice for 25 years and been through a few assistants. I was way surprised he even thought that because one of my coworkers is super fast and supper effecient and she is really nice and great with the patients. BUT she gets mad every time he asks her to do something and he knows it because she doesn't hide it. I have always been an easy going person and I try do do everything with a smile and a "whatever, just get it done" attitude. He tells me all the time that he appreciates it. Plus having a good attitude makes work a lot more enjoyable! I promise you that attitude outshines everything!

Keep the Doctor on time with the appointment
learn patient compliance skills, be on time if not early for the first appt. of the day, be a team player.
