I am considering the San Francisco State University Paralegal Studies Certificate after being laid off recently.
I have been spent several years working on legal issues and find the work satisfying.
Some of the legal issues I have dealt with over the last 20 years are :

State of California:

* Criminal Law - Police Academy Graduate 1986

* Education, Business & Professions I did all the work on Approval to Operate as a BPPVE Private Postsecondary School

* California Notary Public (Current)

Federal

* Immigration - ICE/Visa status for the aforementioned school
* Heck, I did my own Trademark with USPTO

I posses an AA in Social Science from College of Marin however no BA.

Question 1. Do you have any thoughts on Paralegal Studies at SFSU?
2. Do I have a hope in being hired with out a BA?

Thank you,

Rob Klyver

Thanks I am looking at the SFSU ABA Paralegal program for sure and I'll sniff out a BA you know how it is though time and money

Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado said: As a general rule of thumb, your hiring chances will be far better if you earn a Bachelor's degree. More and more firms are asking for Bachelor's degrees. A Bachelor's degree will assure you of meeting the lion's share of hiring requirements.

Your degree doesn't have to be a Bachelor of Arts. It can be a Bachelor's degree in anything. Law was a career change for me. I have a B.S. in Business Administration. I earned my degree twenty years before I considered law. My degree gained me admission to my paralegal school. My degree and paralegal certificate got me through the door to the candidate's chair.

Also, you should consider earning an ABA paralegal certificate. An ABA certificate is the highest grade paralegal certificate available. An ABA certificate removes any doubt about the standard of your training. Also, with an ABA certificate, you are assured of satisfying Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §6450 requirements for being a paralegal in California.

Good to know, DLP! So a BA in Spanish would probably help me get a job as a paralegal, for which my associates in Paralegal Studies seems to be useless. Perhaps I could specialize in immigration and naturalization law?
