They're the biggest spammers on Indeed. They posted about 10 new jobs in my area today. Nothing they post is real.

These job sites are a cycle of the Robert Half of the world looking to pad resume counts, so the put ads on Indeed and other sites, adding revenue to the sites. You give the sites page views, leading to ad dollars. The recruiters get resumes and their employees meet their numbers as far as "candidates." You, the actual job candidate, get nothing.

Absolutely nothing is created out of this whole useless cycle.

Well, I have had no experiences with Robert Half and therefore cannot comment - but I have no reason to doubt you.

I have worked with two local recruiting agencies - All Legal Staff and The Legal Registry. The Legal Registry helped me get two jobs and helped me get out of a bad job that they placed me at. My experience with both agencies was quite positive. Maybe local small recruiters are more personally invested in helping candidates find work?

They only help the perfect candidate - the whole package. I have had luck with them, but they only will recommend you for a position if you are a perfect match for the job. They have quotas for getting resumes, interviewing applicants, calling on law firms, etc. It's cut throat for the people working there. No one really lasts very long working as a recruiter. They work 10 hour days every single day. Most paralegals I know don't trust them as far as they can throw them, even if Half was able to place them in a job. It's just a dirty sleazy business - legal recruiting - but that's the only way to get into some firms.

Well, they have to collect so many resumes a week, so they put those fake jobs out there. But really, if they have a job for you they will call you. They will hunt you down and call you and say, "Hey, would you be interested in a job change...." even if you haven't heard from them in years - if when you interviewed wih them back when, you scored perfect on appearance, experience, education, etc.

They get leads for job openings and leads for qualified candidates from anyone coming in the door or anyone who has come through the door. If you submit a resume and you work at "xyz" law firm currently then they will suspect something is wrong and call the HR person at "xyz" law firm and try to sell their services. They will try to fill your soon to be vacant gig.

When you interview with them they are pumping information from you. But you can use it to your advantage too. You can pump them for information (taken with some skepticism, but much of what I get is accurate).

I have found that some Half recruiters are very very knowledgable about the industry and people who work in it. I have said, "Sally Jones was just let go from my law firm" and they have immediately said, "Oh let me guess, she called in sick every single Monday without fail?" and that's exactly what happened. They can be valuable to HR people. The legal field is so small.

But in the process of this business, applicants can get "used" as the recruiters try to meet their crazy quotas. They can't do ANYTHING for entry level legal people though.
