FLFamLawParalegal in Tampa, Florida

Has anyone been watching the show "Suits" on USA? I ask because, unlike some other shows about lawyers, this one has a paralegal and a legal secretary who are witty, intelligent and talented. I was wondering if anyone has watched it and what they think of the portrayals of the paralegal and legal secretary. I mean, of course all paralegals are witty, intelligent and talented (smiles) but for instance, is it realistic that the paralegal has a rather large office with beautiful glass doors and her name on the glass doors? And that she dresses very sexily? That doesn't seem realistic to me - but then again, it is USA, not real life. I'm pretty sure that Suits is nothing like real life, but it's fun to watch.

No, I don't think it's very realistic in portraying the paralegal with the nice, large office and the associates are stuck in a cubicle bay. However, that's not to say some paralegals don't get to have nice offices. One firm I worked at, I was eventually moved into a vacated attorney's office. Large room on 8th floor with huge windows overlooking the waterfront. I do believe I had the nicest paralegal office in town (and probably of my entire career) until I left the firm 6 mos. later.

As for looks and dress, I think that varies geographically. I think there's more competition in the larger cities, so the firms will be choosy in hiring staff who fit a certain image. In the smaller cities and towns, the firms/attorneys are more concerned with ability and stability and are more likely to hire based on experience and references and probability of long-term tenure.

Well, I have to say that I like knowing that a paralegal in real life had a nice office, so thank you for sharing! I have a little office and I am grateful for it, but it would be so nice to have a window - of course, it would probably be distracting, so maybe it's better there is no window.

I think Suits is a very entertaining show and I love that the paralegal and the legal secretary get some of the best lines!
It has also inspired me to step it up a little with dress and grooming. Presentation is important!
