is the job market for the pharmacist tighter because of the current economy? |

Target pharmacy is cutting one part time pharmacist at 15 locations in our district. I have heard that several other chains are also cutting hours. That is going to make it tougher to find another job, in my estimation. And when you can find a job, every company is tightening hours so there will be much more work to do with less help. |

That is the case with a local manhattan chain as well. Rx volume going up but help hours getting reduced. Also more and more new positions hiring one PIC, and a weekend floater. That means those who have a desire to balance life with work or are older are SOL. Oh well. |

We haven't seen the beginning of the decline of the Pharmacist market. The schools have over-produced pharmacists for roles that have yet to be realized, and more older pharmacists are looking for part time work due to the weak economy. Pharmacists will have to work longer hours, at harder more inane jobs and eventually make less money. Pharmacy is by far the weakest of the medical fields, as it can be more easily outsourced to other professionals. Wait for the rise of the better trained, better educated technician to make an impact! Pharmacists will cease being so smug! |

I am a canadian pharmacist in ontario, foreign-trained, 49 yo. Now I am in the process of getting US licensure and thinking about relocating in MI as my daughter(US citizen) is studying at U of Michigan, Ann Arbor, for tuition and medical school admission purpose. In order to be reclassified as an in-state student, I probably have to secure a job there before coming July. Even though the pharmacy market in ontario is shrinking due to the recent gov't budget cut, I am quite satisfied with my current position. So I am not sure whether benefits of relocating now would be greater than risks. Please share your opinion. Thanks!! |

I got an offer of admission from a pharmacy school. I am married and the financial responsibilities delayed the process but I finally got the admission. I've been researching the market and this field for years and still I can not come to a conclusion about the outlook of pharmacy. Reports, comments in forums etc..are so contradicting. I understand that pharmacy schools are here for profit and consulting them about the future is waste of time. Now reading the comments I am not even sure if this is the right thing to so any more. I am totally confused now. Can anybody help? |
