Iâm tiring to get in to pharmacy technician field. If I got it correctly it is not necessary to be certified in MI. But still I would like to get certified, because I got the feeling that it would be tiny bit easier to find first job if you are certified (please correct me if Iâm wrong). Could any one suggest some Pharm Tech school in Detroit area (Iâm not currently interested in online classes) Is it realistic to get a job without certificate? If yes where? How? |

There is another option at this time, and you should hurry before the changes occur. That is to take the certification on your own, without going to school. At this time in order to be certified you need a high school diploma, no felony convictions, and a good self study, using one of the review books for PTCB at Amazon.com. |

I agree, there is no guarantee of employment after school, who would waste $10,000+ going to school, and still be unemployeed, wait, I would, so i know, dont waste money on going to school. |

Although my externship was more informative, you are going to be in class teaching yourself and learning everything you need to know out of you coarse material(books for the courses). Most of my experience was in the pharmacy at Rite Aid. I want to work in hospital pharmacy but you have to start somewhere because most hospital pharmacies want you to be certified, it would be helpful at the same time to get your education after High School try a community college to see if your financial aid will cover you expenses loans are not the way to go. Good Luck on your future endeavors. |

I actually found in INDIANA atleast, all you need is a Tech in-training license to work in a pharmacy. I got into a large hospital with minimum experience and they will pay for me to get certified, gave me all i need to learn and reimburse you for the certification exam. Pretty good deal.. without school for the cert. |

Have you tried Walgreens? They will pay you to train and for the actual test. Which is $130. I know because thats how I did it. A Happy Walgreens SR. CPhT. |

DEFINITELY TRY WALGREENS. THEY WILL PAY FOR YOUR TRAINING IN SPECIAL CLASSES THEY OFFER AND PAY FOR THE TEST. RECENTLY WENT FOR AN INTERVIEW AT WALGREENS EVEN WITHOUT CERTIFICATION IN INDIANA THEY START AT 9.50 AN HOUR THEN WHEN YOU PASS THE TEST ITS UP TO 10.00 HOURS. GOOD PLACE TO START AND GET ECP. THEN MOVE TO HOSPITAL OR HOMEHEALTH CARE THATS WHERE THE MONEY IS. THIS WAY YOU'LL SAVE ABOUT 10 GRAND IN SCHOOL. THE PAY FOR TECHS IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY LET RETAIL RX'S DO THAT FOR YOU. I KNOW SOME TECHS IN INDIANA HOSPITAL OR HOME HEALTH THAT ARE MAKING ABOUT 16-17 AN HOUR WITH EXPERIENCE. GOOD LUCK |

I think that you better look for an accredited school because if this bill will pass, there are going to be major changes for the profession: Federal Legislation for Tech Standards Introduced U.S. Reps. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) and Stephen F. Lynch (D-MA) have introduced sweeping federal legislation that will mandate training, education, registration and certification requirements for pharmacy technicians nationwide. `Subpart XI--Pharmaceutical Technicians `SEC. 340H.
