I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician, graduate of Pharmacy Technology Diploma and I don't have a job. I been everywhere looking for a job. I know I busted my ass in school for what it's been 1 year and no job only stupid interviews saying the same stupid thing i don't have any experience okay my intership at school were my intership right yes. but to my dismay the people they have working at the tech position never went to school, didn't have experience but yet their there. i live in a small city in southwest georgia and i'm leaving here moving to el paso tx to stay with my brother cuz of no jobs out here so i truly wish i would have went to school for lpn because i would have a job b4 my internship would have been up. very angry, my lack of time and schooling did any good in ga but wasted my time and effort hopefully the new year will bring me a wonderful new pharmacy tech job falisha in moultrie ga going to tx soon very soon |

I have had the same problem in california. it took me 6 months after my school to find a job, nobody wanted me because i had never done this. i finally got a job then had a baby came back and the owner was a dick to me so i left. then it took me half a year to find another job and i had my second baby, and my f***** luck the owner sells his store to a big chain store and when i go back to see if i could get a job they tell me they have no openings. if i had know their is no need for techs in cali. i would of wasted my time on something else!!!!!! EVERY BODY OUT THERE DONT GO TO SCHOOL FOR PHARMACY TECHNICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I have had the same results as nenna and falisha. I went to PT school and was an honor student. But after my graduation no one wanted to hire me because I had no "experience". They all wanted at least 1 yr. experience in a pharmacy, or retail setting and even though I was state certified and nationally certified I still wasn't "qualified". I belive that this pharmacy tech postition with "many" job oppurtunities was a big hype started by the tech schools in order to get people to enroll in their programs so they could make money of us by enrolling in their programs. When I did my internship at a Fry's pharmacy none of the tech's there had any prior pharmacy tech training. Some couldn't tell basic medical terminology (prn. ad, ung, od, au, ad lib) I wondered why I wasn't offered a position after my internship. But something during my internship gave me an idea of how the whole pharmacy tech hiring process is done. One day while I was rotating stock I over heard the pharmacist talking to who I later found out was her son. She was reprimanding him over the phone about not showing up for work for a week and a half at another Fry's pharmacy, she went on to tell him that she "pulled some strings" in order for him to get that position and he was making her look bad. He eventually showed up for work and was hired, I was told by the Pharmacist. When I remembered this incident after trying to get numerous pharmacy tech positions and going to what has seemed dozens of interviews it reminded me of the old saying, "It's not WHAT you know, but WHO you know". I feel this applies well to the pharmacy tech field because it seems you either have to know someone or know someone who knows someone in order to get a job as a PT. Oh and one more thing, most of the techs working for Fry's were working as cashiers, or overnight stockers before being hired as Pharmacy Tech's. I guess that was the kind of experience they were looking for. Or maybe it's not what you know but. |

Maybe it wouldnt be so hard to find a good job if some of you spoke proper english. If you speak as bad as you type then anyone can see why its hard for some of you find jobs. Also, all these spelling errors are ridiculous on here. Come on people, didnt those 15,000 dollar schools tell you that as a pharm tech typing is your main priority, and pharmacists dont want to go back and have to re-type labels because you cant spell infection or cholesterol....???? I agree with the last blogger...Improve interview skills!! When people come to my pharmacy asking "You got any openin's...Where I get a application at?" no one will ever take a second look at their app. And another thing for anyone else whos reading this...Dont go to those "tech" school were you pay 15000 for 6 months become a pharmacy technician, medical assistant, CNA, massage therapist.....Those schools are looked down upon by professionals. Any moron can pass those classes and they will most likely not have the right skills. You can be a licensed pharm tech, but do you know anything about a specific locations computers??? Do you know DUR rejects and all the special codes for each insurance company? Do you know what auxillary labels go on which rx bottle label? Im not trying to be mean, I just want people to understand that the experience these people places are wanting is not the kind you learn in school. And if you go in there with a negative attitude you can bet they can see right through you. Just make sure to spell properly and speak properly if you ever want to be hired. By the way...There are TONS of pharm tech jobs in my part of the country :) |
