Considering a Pharmacy Tech Career- be prepared to be abused!
Just look at the classified ads that appear in the Newspapers. “Be a ____”. BEWARE… Training without job placement. Looking back, I would consider paying for a formal education if I had trouble with elementary algebra or remembering facts in high school. Otherwise, I would only get the current CPHT manuals and teach myself. There is a difference between Pharmacy tech schools… the amount you pay. The only reason to take these courses is to prepare to pass the National Certification test and only if you don’t have the discipline or the ability to teach yourself.

The only reason that there is re-certification every 2 years is to eliminate complete idiots from working in pharmacy’s and to protect the pharmacy from law suites resulting from incompetent workers or changing laws. Once you are employed as a Pharmacy Tech and after your “training period”, you will probably be performing the same things all day everyday. Over the course of month or years of working, you will probably forget some of the crap you learned to pass the test. So you study, pay more money and take the test again or take CE courses, some of which are free. “Training” is the what your employers do so that you can perform some trivial monotonous task(s) for them. If you are gifted at stroking their egos, they might “teach” you do so something else once in a while, but is it something that would be important on a resume enroot to your dream job? “Feeling Lucky?… well, do you punk?”

Consider who you would be working for. A pharmacist is the person in charge. Most that I’ve met have been micro-managers, or ego-maniacs, or incompetent, or they do as little as they possibly can. You may even wonder why some are paid what they are for what they really do! Another type of supervisor is the Pharmacy Tech leads.
