Hello. Is there anyone here who resides in Arizona, near the Phoenix area?

I was curious about the pay range in this area at the different pharmacies (grocery stores, CVS & Walgreens). If anyone has any info or would like to tell me their experiences it would be much appriciated.

I am currently attending Apollo College, a 9 month Pharm Tech program that at the end, will place me into an internship and give the certification test.

Right now I work at Wal-Mart as a cashier, but have requested to be transferred to the pharmacy so I can begin getting some actual experience in a work setting. I've also just applied at CVS and Walgreens last night, hopefully I'll get a call back soon.
Thanks all.

I was told by a College America rep that a Walmart cashier gets paid more than a Walmart Pharm tech. Is that true? Also I heard a rumor that banner pays 15 an hour and I saw an actual job listing for Fry's at 9.69 an hour. I have also been told that a pretty high number of people like 95% or something actually get hired by the place where they did their externship. All I know about it. I will need a job as a pharmacy technician very soon. I am almost done with school and currently looking for a hospital internship and I might have a walgreens internship lined up they will be two weeks each. So end of Aug or Sept I will need to get back to work. Do you have to be certified to start on day 1? or will I have time to study specifically for the test before I take it while working? Appreciate any and all help, hanks a bunch for your post.

I am a graduate of CGCC Pharmacy tech program, this is an accelerated program, and very uselful. I appeared for my certification exam and aced it too, It was worth the money I spent. The pay for Pharmacy tech, even after certification is not very good, I wish that they would raise the wages. Jenn, I would like to know what job offers you ahve, I have another friend of mine looking for a job too,

Does anyone else feel this way and WHY? What about Apollo college? Any others? Where is the best place to go to school????

I suspected Pima was but I know Apollo is a scam they don't even have the proper accreditations for all their programs. They wait until you are done and let the state board tell you don't have what you need, theya re cheating kids mostly left and right and the state allow them. Anyway Go to Chandler Gilbert Community College. You will get the education you need and won't pay high private tuition rates.

Don't waste your money paying to take courses for Pharmacy Tech certification. I just got a couple of books, studied for about 6 weeks, and I took the test Tuesday and passed with no problems. JA

Which books did you study? Isn't there value to the school's externship programs and job placement? Hands on with machinery such as pill counters and IV bags etc.? How much was the test and I assume that you need no school certificate to take it? Are you smarter than the average person or do you think anyone can do it the way you did? I don't have time or money to waste, but I do have a brain... maybe I could do what you did. Thanks for the info.

I used books from the website ptcbtrainer.com and also Delmar's Pharmacy Certification Technician Certification Exam Review. Delmar's is a little out of date since it is about 9 years old, which is why I studied from both books. It doesn't teach you absolutely everything that is on the test, but they were good enough for me to pass with no problems at all and with no school. A lot of the schools concentrate on teaching basic math. I'm good at math so I didn't need to go back to school to learn what I already know. The ptcbtrainer is good for helping even those that aren't good at math. I don't have a job yet as a Pharmacy Tech, and even after passing the test, there is no guarantee that I will even be able to get one. Walgreen's and CVS will be laying off alot of people in their pharmacy departments because they are consolidating to a central processing type pharmacy. Jobs are few and far between and there are already a lot of pharmacy techs out there that are already certified and have experience and are looking for jobs. Good Luck, JA
