Tech Lectures has much to offer at their website as well as on ebay of which their prices are really affordable. They now have on-line practice exams for 5.00. Sure beats paying 29.00 for the PTCB practice exam or 25.00 for the ExCPT exam.

In fact their Review manual is going for 20.00 on ebay when it is usually 42.00 at their website. Something about wanting to help those who cannot afford those steep prices others charge.

Good luck to all of preparing for the National Exam!

Hi everyone, I took this exam this past Saturday and it was the hardest test in my life, I have been a tech at Walgreen's for a year and a few months but I really suck in math, so the test was like a disaster because I got one that had pretty much all math and hospital stuff and I did not know a lot of the questions so I just marked and answer and I feel as I did not pass and I am so nervous because Walgreen's is pushing us to get certified and we don't have much time left, I am frustrated because I'm almost sure I failed it!

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. I thought I failed to. Hardest test of my life also. I had 2 weeks to study... did not go through a course; just challenged it so I could get a decent job. Thought I failed also but I didn't. If I passed, any one of you can.
So don't give up yet, Miami.

Galina Dimov in Monroe, North Carolina said: Hey Nat, do you know how to work this one?

How many 30mg KMnO4 tablets would be needed to make 1.2L of a 1:1000 solution?

the answer should be 40

1.2L = 1200ml
1/1000= 0.001gram/ml

solution: 0.001gram/ml x 1200ml =1.2gram
1.2gram convert to milligram = 1200mg/30mg = 40tablets

I took my exam this past Friday. I was so stressed about it that the night the night before I thought that I was going to hyperventilate!!! I highly recommend going through the test a second time once you have finished answering the questions. Also, a little last minute studying doesn't hurt. One of the questions I picked up on last minute ended up being on the test! I won't find anything out until the 29th.

I teach Pharmacy Tech and have had only 4 students fail the PTCB (in 3 years). If anyone needs any help, please feel free to e-mail me at ImaBuckeye629@hotmail.com. When learning the drugs...remember Beta blockers end in -olol; ACE inhibitors end in -pril; anti-anxiety -pram (calm as a lamb with the -prams). Learning the suffixes will help identify them. Know how to perform alligations, conversions (there are several questions on a person weighing so many lbs but calculating the dosage from mg/kg. You must know the metric conversions, temp conversions, flow rates...anyway, if you need help, I will do what I can, The tests that one can purchase are NOT the test that they give, but a very good sampling of the questions. The PTCB will kick your butt,

Dear ImaBuckeye629 in Evansville, Indiana
I am very happy for you, your stats are great!
You wrote: "I teach Pharmacy Tech ...remember ..anxiety -pram (calm as a lamb with the -prams." However, the benzodiazepines end in -lam and -pam NOT '-pram' . Examples: Dalmane \ flurazepam, Xanax = alprazolam, Valium = diazepam, and Ativan = lorazepam. Further, one may not say that the antianxiety drugs end in -pram or -pam as the main one, Xanax ends in -lam.
Benzodiazepines are used not only as antianxiety, but skeletal muscle relaxants, sedatives, hypnotics, alcohol withdrawal, status epilepticus depending upon the specific BZ 1/2 or GABA A/B receptor and the strength of the drug administered. Restoril and Dalmane both end in '-pam' but then are NOT anxiolytics, they are hypnotics ONLY.

While I am very sure you are a great teacher, I needed to correct this so that others do not study "-pram" endings per your instruction.

Respectfully,

Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS

Jeanetta,

You are so right! I should have taken the time to read what I wrote and check for type-os and add all the suffixes that rhyme with 'lamb' and I apologize to all. Actually, I meant to only put '-lam' as in Xanax...my mistake! This is why I am home in bed sick today instead of in front of the class...I am not thinking very well!

DId you check with the state to make sure that they recognize the ExCPT exam. I did in the state of TN and they told me that they DO NOT recognize the ExCPT exam and the only one that they did recognize was the PCTB.
You may want to check that out with the state as I would hate for you to go to all that trouble and finance for a pharmacy to tell you that they don't recognize the one you have. I just wrote the state board and asked.

Technician regulations differ by state. The ExCPT is a viable option for Pharmacy Technicians in the vast majority of states (Tennessee Board of Pharmacy recognizes the ExCPT Exam). Check with your State Board of Pharmacy for requirements.

The ExCPT exam questions are weighted so they are not worth one point or 5 points each. A score of 390 out of a total 500 points is needed to pass.

JC in New York, New York said: Yes but since the 31 of 50 states already recognize the PCTB with the others sure to follow it's probably easier just to take the PTCE to get one's certification since it will cover you anywhere you go. With the ExCPT you're not "certified" in some states and there is no guarantee that it will become a nationally accepted standard...they usually only stick with one exam/board (again, look to nursing or other health care professions that require certification or licensure). Why take the ExCPT then end up having to take the PTCE anyway? I wouldn't want to go through testing twice if I didn't have to!

Technician regulations differ by state. The ExCPT is a viable option for Pharmacy Technicians in the vast majority of states. Check with your State Board of Pharmacy for requirements.

The ExCPT is accredited by NOCA, which is the same company that has reviewed and given accredidation to PTCB.

There are a few states who don't recognize the ExCPT exam, however we are working to change that so that Pharmacy Techs will have a choice when it comes to testing to become a CPhT.

Let me do the honors of correcting her. Following her letter is the letter that I wrote the board of Tenn to a Terry Grinder, who is HEAD PHARMACIST of TN ST BOARDS. He wrote back and told me that the ptcb was the ONLY one in TN that is accepted.

Dear Phar,

I did not get the feeling of you being 'roasted' or 'lamb basted' by being informed of the most current information at the time you asked about it. But I do honestly understand 'how' people misinterpret 'tone' in a post. It frequently on blogs mainly because we can not see the person we are writing to. In additionwe do not have the benefit of speaking or hearing the speaker, which would lend itself to the intonations and fluctuations insomeones voice that would tell us that the person 'correcting' us is nto attacking but rather informing and a 'friendly' action.

I did not see the person making fun of you for asking or putting you down for your spelling, grammar, typos, thoughts or opinions or just for living - which I would say would be lamb basting. BUT you are always entitled to your feelings and you felt lamb basted. Perhaps after reading the response from the person who 'informed' you of the TN laws you will feel differently today.

Peace and Respect

Nahhhhh didn't really feel lamb blasted. Just a figure of speech as in your letter. Yours was new to the forum and it was talking about lamb blasting. The person that wrote what I answered, apparently didn't know what she was talking about as I had already talked to the HEAD pharmacist in TN and I knew that TN didn't accept anything but the ptcb. Thought I would throw that in since I had talked to him and had documented email of that The reason that I asked is that the other test seemed easier. That websight actually had some good study... or should I say BETTER test examples and studying. It was also alot cheaper. But when I checked about the test they told me that I wouldn't be accepted as certified. I would not be able to go and get a job and claim certification. So I took the HEAD pharmacist of TN at his word and went the ptcb way.
Things like that don't bother me. My letter was to inform the obviously uninformed. But you on the other hand..... woe! I wouldn't have wanted to be you in that letter.! LOL! Actually your weren't truly lamb blasted either..... I took it as figure of speech. She obviously was very educated, probably a pharmacist and just simply informing you of your mistakes. I don't take things to heart and let it all roll off my shoulders. Life it too short. Been there done that and I have learned to not sweat the small stuff.

Apparently I ruffled some feathers. No I didn't really take it as lamb blasting as I didn't take your letter to the other girl as lamb blasting as she took it. I took it as a figure of speech. I thought the informer was very informative.
I did however, ask the pharmacists about 3 miles from my house today, as a matter of fact, if I was certified by the other one, and I have forgotten what it is now, would I be "certified" in the state of TN and he told me that if the rules have changed that he wasn't aware of it.
Personally I thought the examples were better and the example test was very easy to follow and easier to understand. TN just doesn't accept it.
Oh well.... his email address is on there, maybe if enough people wrote and suggested that TN accept it, they would.
I am already certified, so it doesn't really bother me if they do or they don't.

David Scurlock in Eden Prairie, Minnesota said: Greetings,

If you taken your PTCE Exam, it would be of great help to everyone to know what you seen (if you can remember) on your exam. If you can remember specific questions that would be of great help also.

I did take the exam, its been awhile, I did have quite a few math questions, I failed by a few points, If I would have studied math over everything else, I feel that I would have passed, but I did not study that way, I tried to remember everything else, which I thought was fatal mistake on my grade after it was over, I also lost my calculator at the door because i had to many functions, so they took it, that did not help either.

I can not remember anything specific since it has been awhile since I took the test, there were some basic questions on the exam, you would have to be down right stupid to get them wrong as they were really basic, such as how many inches do you need to be within the laminar flowhood...I also feel there were quite of few basic math formulas on the test as there was some quite diffcult one I had to go through without my calculator, I also remember a couple of allegation questions on the test, maybe 1 or 2 drip formula questions, and such.

Thank-You for your time on help others....

I took the exam in Sept. 2008, and I had a lot of math questions. It was interesting because math is my weakness ( always was) I got through it, I took my time with the questions. Their were 90 questions and about 65 were math, especially, propotions and flow rates.

All of the topics that you wrote about are in Tutorials on my FREE PTCB Study Group site and in any good study or review book. U agree knowing the math helpws the most second to that is law.

Not sure if you took the electronic exam or paper, BUT today during electronic exams you can use the electronic calculater that they provide for you or at some test sites you can use a hand held basic calculator that the test site provides. So you should have been offered the electronic/computer calculator at the site if you did the electronic testing.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform and remind all of us that when a person takes the exam they also sign an oath or condition statement that he or she will NOT devulge any information on the exam , nor the exact questions. It is acceptable to discuss topics that were on the exam, but it is not acceptable to cite specific questions. The purpose of this is to retain the integrity of the exam.

One who signs the statement must make their signature mean something, count for something, be accountable.
There are no 'question police out there' per se. But PTCB has the right to remove or revoke your certification for life, if they find you have broken your word, your promise. I and at least one other site owner have been watched specifically to be sure we are not posting such test questions. The other site owner received a letter with such a warning.

Keep your integrity and the ingetrity of the exam..... do not devulge the exact exam questions, but rather the topics.

Respectfully,

Jeanetta
