California does not require PTCB. It is however ONE way to meet the requirements to become a registered pharmacy technician in the
state ot cA.

You may go to school and with completion records sent by the school on your behalf you will be eligible for registration as a pharm tech in the state.

As of September 13, 2011 there are even MORE requirements. They are so new that I will not discuss them as I may make an error. So I suggest that you vist the CA State Board of Pharmacy site
www.pharmacy.ca.gov/forms/app_forms.shtml

to download a pharm tech application which will have it all in there for you.

"QUALIFYING METHOD
To be licensed as a pharmacy technician in California, you must qualify under A, B, or C as listed below and be a high school graduate or possess a general educational development (GED) certificate:
A. If you are qualifying by one of the following methods, the Affidavit of Completed Coursework or Graduation for Pharmacy Technician (page 4 of the application) must be submitted with your application.
An Associate Degree in Pharmacy Technology;
Any other course that provides a minimum of 240 hours of instruction as specified in Title 16 California Code of Regulation section 1793.6(c);
A training course accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP); or
Graduation from a school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
B. If you are certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), you must submit a certified true copy of your PTCB certificate or the original certificate with your application. (A certified true copy is a copy that has been certified or notarized as a true copy.)
C. If you are qualifying by training provided by a branch of the federal armed services, you must submit a copy of your DD214 with your application."

I hope that pasted well.

Respectfully, Jeanetta Mastron

There is NO California state exam for pharm tech.

All you need is a notarized copy of your PTCB certificate.
does not matter which state you lived in when you took your exam. However when you take the exam the address on your drivers license or ID is where they will send the atcual paper certificate.

This happened to a person who emailed me about this last year. A horrible mix up and long long wait.

You will need Live Scan finerprins fill out the application from the site I posted earlier: www.pharmacy.ca.gov/forms/app_forms.shtml

You will also NEED:
PRACTITIONER SELF-QUERY REPORT: You are required to provide a sealed original Self-Query Report from the National Practitioner Data Bank Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (NPDB-HIPDB). It is your responsibility to attach the sealed original NPDB-HIPDB Self-Query Report to your application. Title 16 California Code of Regulation §1793.5(a)(4) specifies a sealed, original Self-Query Report from the National Practitioner Data Bank - Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (NPDBHIPDB) dated no earlier than 60 days of the date an application is submitted to the board. Please note: the application requires the Self-Query Report to remain in a sealed envelope.
In accordance with Title 16 California Code of Regulations §1793.5, all applicants must submit a NPDB-HIPDB Self-Query Report as part of the initial application for licensure. The instructions to request a Self-Query Report are available at NPDB-HIPDB’s website: www.npdb-hipdb.hrsa.gov. The website includes a Fact Sheet on self-querying, as well as Frequently Asked Questions to assist you in requesting a report.
 Practitioner Self-Query Report requests are required to be submitted through NPDB-HIPDB website http:www.hpdb-hipdb.hrsa.gov. NPDB-HIPDB provides a toll-free number for individuals who do not have access to the Internet.
 Practitioners are required to pay a total charge of $16.00 directly to NPDBHIPDB.
Hope this helps
JM

Nan in Powder Springs, Georgia said: I read all the comments but with this economy I believe my 17yo daughter will have a better chance getting a job at the pharmacy with a pharmacy tech cert. Whats the harm its not costing me anything to send her to a technical college here in GA. It only takes 3 semesters (less than 1 year)and then she can go to the U of West GA major in Chemistry and then go on to apply to pharmacy school. I does take 6 years so she needs to work PT she likes to shop!!

****I am relocating to Atlanta,Georgia. Not to far from Powder Springs. Which school offers the three month course?

Regina in Lititz, Pennsylvania said: Where do you go for the AA degree? Any reputible online schools? I already have college credits. I did see some pharm tech jobs in PA for $20/hr on Careerbuilder.com
I know Kelly temp agenicies hire techs in MD and PA.

How did you do with your job search? I am actually a very disgruntled LPN after 20 yrs who is getting certified for pharm tech and upset about the money they pay, so where did you find $20 an hour in PA?
