I have taken my pharmacy technician certification test and passed. I thought that was all that was needed to become a tech in Florida but now I find out you have to be registered. I am a pre-pharmacy student, I'm only trying to become a tech so that I can get into pharmacy school. I have no experience as a tech and I don't want to attend tech school to get the experience since I'm already attending school to get my bachelors. Is there anyway to become a registered pharmacy technician in Florida without going to school.

so I have been preparing myself to start the pharm tech course at my local COT for the last 2 mos...as I had missed registering for spring session I have to wait until summer which starts on may 29th...today I was told by a pharm tech at my local grocery store that she just went online took a "pre" cert test to see what she needed to study and then took her actual exam and passed...both her and the pharmacist said only he (the pharmacist) has ever had to take a college course to work in a pharmacy...
I'm a little upset because this means the last two months I could have already been certified and working or at least applying for open positions...
What I am wondering is there any value in going to the college and taking the course before the exam, or should I take the exam and still take the college course while working as a tech???

Is it possible to still be a pharmacy technician in other countries with the certificate that I got in the US or do you think I have to re-take the test in their country?

If anyone knows any information, input would be greatly appreciated!

If you took the PTCB exam you should be fine. Considering most countries may or maynot require certification at all. The PTCB is a national examination that could be used all over. So, that certification is a step ahead of what another country may ask for.

Which school did you go to?

Brandi in Conroe, Texas said: I totally agree. Do not pay a lot of money to become a pharmacy tech. I paid close to $6000.00 for professional school. I started off making $12.00 in 2005 working for a hospital PRN in Texas. I went to retail (which I hate!) from there and could only make $10.00 an hour.

However, I do use my pharmacy knowledge, registration and certification to work for a local goverment entity making over $20.00 an hour. There are a ton of other options as a tech that can make more than the basic tech's salary. Some would include you personally getting innovative and seeking out oppertunities, but others are cookie cutter positions with PBM's (admin) or specility tech positions in pharmacies.

How to renew pharmacy technician license in the state of Illinois. My license is going to expire on 31 March 2012.

My license is still valid , Initial Issue date 01/25/2010 Expiry date 03/31/2012.

I got PTCB , pharmacy technician certified board certificate Initial Certification Date October 20,2010 Certification renewal date November 30,2012.

I applied to Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation this month, with my PTCB certificate, with $25 renewal fees this month.

They returned my application. They said that in addition to PTCB certificate, you must submit proof of pharmacy technician training.

My situation is that I am not currently working, and never worked in pharmacy. How Can renew my license of pharmacy technician. Anyone with same situation.

Waiting.

MK Education in Downers Grove, Illinois said: Yes, you do need to become certified to work as a Pharmacy Technician. I see that you live in Skokie and Oakton Community College has a Pharmacy Technician training course that is offered. This program will prepare you to take either the PTCB or the ExCPT exam. If you don't wish to spend the money to take the full course, you could also purchase the same equipment that will still adequately prepare you for the exam.

I am also from IL and when I had my state license for 2 yrs, it was time to renew it and in order to renew it I had to be certified. About ptcb exam classes, I'm not sure where they provide these classes but I know there are out there somewhere. You can try to call pharmacies and ask them because I'm sure some of them will know.

"well it depends on if your are certified for IV making and sterile processing, and experience. If you are a certified pharmacy tech you will make the lower or middle salary...if you are certified in IV making and sterile compounding in addition to being a certified pharmacy tech, then you will make a lot more."

So does that mean self study and take the PT test, and then go to school for the IV/sterile compounding certification? Can that be taken as a separate course?

I had passed the PTCB examination. Now, I'm waiting for my certification and test scores to arrive in the mail. In the mean time, I've been applying to jobs but no one seems to be hiring.I just have to remain positive that something would come up.
